"Mitch?"
I hear her voice. Mum?
"Mitch honey. Oh, you're all grown up!" She wavered in front of me. Her soft touch on my face is so realistic, spreading warmth. Mum!
"I'm so proud of you," she smiled. She put her hand on my shoulder. I was expecting pain to be shooting up, but I feel nothing. Weird, it would usually be painful. I looked at my shoulder. The scars are gone?!
"You shouldn't put yourself into too much misery," she said. Something wet came down my face. Why shouldn't I?
"You brought justice," she grinned. Wait what?
"You found the killer!" She wiped the tears on my face. I didn't!
"You did, Mitch," she reassured me. I didn't do anything! I'm useless!
"Mitch, you aren't useless," she started to fade. Mum?
"Just know that," everything started to turn dark. Mum! Don't leave me!
"I love you, Mitchy," she disappeared. Mum! Come back!
"Mum!" I jolted up, and in an instant a shot of pain coursed through my body. I hissed. Shit. Where am I?
"Mitch?" Someone called me. It sounded deeper. That's not my mum. I looked up. It was a police officer. What did I do wrong?
"Yeah?" I hesitantly asked. Okay, stay calm, Mitch.
"I'm going to ask you some questions," he commanded. The pressure was real...
Come on, Mitch. Think. What did you do wrong.
Screw you brain, for blanking out.
I didn't answer.
"Do you remember what happened eleven years ago?" He flipped the papers.
How old was I eleven years ago? Five? Oh wait, I was five...
I clutched my head. The heart monitor's beeps quickened.
He's back. He's back.
Air. I need air.
Where's Jerome. Shit, where's Jerome?!
"Jerome! Where is he?" I asked.
"He's fine, Mitch. Now answer my question!" He demanded. I panicked. I knew this police isn't going to do anything but just demand answers from me.
Oh god, is Jerome dead?
Shit! Rob!
He's dead... my brother is dead! I didn't do anything to protect him, not even a single shit! He saved us, and I just ran away! I'm such a coward! Coward!
"Answer me. Now!" He shouted. Nurses rushed in and pushed him out.
I'm a coward. I can't do anything to even protect Rob.
I blacked out.
