Just like any action film, one piece of critical information the protagonist of the story needs to know is the enemy. There's no point in an action film if there is no evil mastermind with the intention to destroy the world; or in my case, a fxxckboy with the intention of ruining my life.
In Riverdale, the antagonist to my story, was none other than Reggie Mantle. I had known the guy since we were both in diapers, and I'm pretty certain that he left the womb with as much narcissism as Mariah Carey.
The morning was crisp, and I took a deep breath of cool air as I stepped out of my car. First day of school and I was yet to catch a glimpse of Archie Andrews who, according to Betty, had gone through an incredible refinement over the summer. I hadn't seen him yet, but if Betty's goo-goo eyes were any indication, then he must've been hot.
My thoughts were snatched as I heard a deafening screeching noise. My head whipped around to find Reggie's blazing, red truck pull into the school's parking lot.
Oh my gosh, I thought. I had never run so fast in my life. Avoid at all costs.
I ran straight inside the school, and without watching where I was going, I bumped into the school's social pariah.
"Oh my gosh, Jughead, I am so sorry! I wasn't paying attention-"
"Not a problem, Mia," he assured me. He had already picked up all of his books faster than I could even offer to help. "As you were."
Looking around confused, I spotted Betty by her locker. She was touching up her hair in the mirror, and applied some lip gloss to her plump lips.
"Hey, Bets, getting ready for Archiekins, are we?" I joked, when I finally reached her locker.
She sighed heavily, and dejectedly closed her locker.
"Oh, no," I said.
"Exactly, 'Oh, no,'" she grumbled.
"What happened?"
Betty wouldn't look me in the eyes as she told me, "Nothing happened. I was in the middle of telling him my feelings, before we received a little interruption, and then it just never came out."
"Disgusting," I lamented as I crossed my arms. "Who was it? Was it an annoying jock?"
"No, just the new girl."
"What? The one you're supposed to show around today?"
"The very one," she said quietly. "But I'm sure she's nice, you know. You can't judge, really, she was just making conversation."
My eyes lingered behind Betty's head for a moment, and I spotted an unfamiliar raven-haired girl. She stuck out like a sore thumb, clad in a white, plaid dress, and a set of radiant pearls on her neck.
"I know every face in Riverdale High, even the freshmen, but I've never seen her before." I gestured my finger towards raven-haired beauty and Betty turned around.
"That's her," Betty confirmed.
"Wow," I breathed. "She looks fabulous."
"I know," Betty sighed, with a hint of sorrow. "Well, I guess I'll see you later, Mia."
Betty straightened her posture and made a beeline towards the new girl. That was my queue for me to get my stuff sorted out with my locker.
With an alphabetical system, my locker was little bit further down from Betty's. Being Amelia May, my locker was with all the other M's in the grade; including Reggie Mantle.
