Calum
It was 3 weeks later when I made the decision to get my own hotel room and it was also when I met Dylan. (A/N: O'Brien. DON'T FIGHT ME ON THIS)The boys shared one and I had my own. I needed space and time and the boys were being extremely understanding, and I was grateful for that.
But now it was quiet, too quiet without Ashton's laughs and Luke and Michael's arguments on certain games and movies. It just felt different. And I didn't know yet if it was a good or bad different.
So I got up and dressed and decided to go and explore the new town we were in this time. Because it was just too quiet and I couldn't take it, I needed to be around someone right now. Even if it was a complete stranger who didn't even notice my existence. I needed to do something and I needed to get out of this hotel room.
When I finally managed to sneak past security and my 'body guards', I made my way outside where it started to sprinkle. I ended up stopping at a little coffee shop when it started actually raining. I was surprised I hadn't been discovered by any fans or paps yet.
But just as I opened the door, someone walked through it with a steaming cup of coffee. The door crashed into them and I quickly ran inside to see if he was okay.
"Crap!" He yelped when he spilled the coffee all over his shirt. He started fanning it and I quickly grabbed some napkins from the counter and started wiping at the forming stain.
"I'm so so so sorry!" I say and he shakes his head and looks up at me.
"Don't worry about it, I'm just really clumsy." He said I sighed, still feeling guilty.
"Let me buy you a coffee, since I made you wear yours." I say sheepishly and he went to protest but I wasn't listening. I mean it was the least I could do.
"I'm Dylan by the way." He said and I smiled, taking the hand Dylan offered me and shaking it.
"Calum." I say quietly and that only started more conversation between us.
And even though Dylan was leaving before, he still sat down to drink his coffee with me. It was nice to finally have a conversation with someone for once, to actually socialize and not feel sad. It was different and I was laughing and smiling and it felt nice.
"So what do you do?" Dylan asked, his coffee now empty and just sitting on the table.
"Uh, well I'm kinda in a band?" I say and shrug, not really wanting to go to the topic of the band, because then the topic of my band mates will come up and I knew I couldn't think of them right now, not when I've just made a new friend. I didn't want to embarrass myself, or talk about them because it will just remind me of what I was trying to forget and then I'll be sad again.
"No way! That's so cool. I was actually in a band once, so much fun. Though we all kinda drifted off. Really sucked because I always wanted to become big and perform in arenas and stuff."
"What did you play?" I ask curiously.
"The drums. What do you play?"
"Bass." I mumble and he nods.
"Have you gotten any good gigs lately?" He asked excitedly and I smiled.
"Yeah, I'd say we have. I mean we just played at Hershey Park."
"No way! Wait what band are you in?" He asked incredulously.
"Uh, well." I let out a nervous chuckle. "We're called 5 Seconds of Summer."
He stares at me with wide eyes and then his smile grows as he squeals. "I know some of your songs, you guys are amazing. Gosh I didn't know you were actually famous, that's so cool!" I couldn't help but giggle a little.
"Wow whats it like? Traveling around the world? I've always wanted to do that."
"It's amazing, beautiful and the fans are great. It's really everything I've ever wanted to do." I say with a small smile.
"Wow." Dylan says and smiles, he had an amazing smile. "I guess you're living the dream." I laughed and shrugged.
"I don't know about that but I'm definitely living my dream."
We talked a little longer before he saw the time and frowned. "I have to go." He says slowly, sadly. I pout a little but nod.
"It was nice meeting you Calum." He says and I nod, giving him a small smile.
"You too."
He gets up and throws his cup away before walking out the door and I sigh. I didn't even get his number or anything.
But then the little bell above the door chimes again as someone walks in. I look up from my hands when Dylan stops in front of me.
"I almost forgot to give you this, just in case you're back in the area and want to hang out with a dork like me." I look down at the piece of paper he gave me with a huge smile.
"Thanks Dyl." I mumble and he nods before smiling cutely and walking back out with a little wave and small, 'goodbye'.
Today was definitely a good day. A good day, full of new beginnings.
