Since the time that I had been claimed by the ocean goddess, a couple hundred years had gone by, and Maui and I had become the closest of friends.

"Come on, Kahi! I'm beating you!" he said to me. Before you get the wrong idea, we were racing to nowhere in particular.

"Not for long, Maui!" I yelled back. As I said this, I splashed him him with a wave of water. Suddenly, a structure appeared in the distance. Lalotai, I thought.

" Hey, Maui. Race you to Lalotai!" I said. He nodded, and turned his boat east, towards Lalotai. We then got there, and raced each other to the top of the entrance. We both noticed it was open.

"Dare you to jump in." he said.

"No way. That's easily a thousand-foot drop. You jump in." I said as we both stared at each other. Suddenly, he pushed me, and I dropped my trident into the depths. I groaned at Maui and dived in after it. As soon as I had hit the ground, I twisted my ankle, letting out a yelp of pain. I noticed a cave and went straight towards it. I had been so relieved to see it that I somehow didn't notice a huge pile of treasure. I tried to run, but he had come out of his hiding place, which shot me up and made me fall to the ground, amplifying my pain.

"What's a little mortal like yourself doing down here?" he asked to me. Suddenly, it occurred to me that I was in the lair of Tamatoa. Great job, you're going to die! I thought.
"I'm here to get my trident, and believe me, I am no mortal." I said with defiance in my voice.

"Sorry babe, but if I get my claws on something, there's a very small chance you'll get it back." he replied. "The only way that I would give it back is if you fought me for it, and that's near impossible, considering the fact that I'm about 10 times your height." he continued.

"That may be so, but I'm still magic!" I said as I pelted him with water. Then, he hit me with his claw, and everything turned black.
