Chapter 5

Amy:
     As I looked for an empty table I saw Amber and Ashley talking to someone. I thought that would be good for me, because maybe they would just leave me alone. But when I looked a little closer I knew who it was that they were talking to. It had to be Allie. I didn't know if I should do anything or not. So I did what I told them what I would do. I would look for them at lunch.
     I knew the girl had mental challenges or something, and Amber and Ashley were planning to do something to her. I wondered if Allie, if that was who that was, had any friends.
     I went up to the three girls, like I saw nothing. Because I certainly didn't hear  anything. "Hi."
     Amber was the first to notice me. "Oh, Amy. Hey. This is Allie. She'll be sitting with us today, too. Won't you Allie?"
     Allie looked unsure of what she should do. "Um, well, I always sit with Matt and Hannah."
     Ashley pulled her by the arm. "If you want to be with the cool girls, you'll come with the three of us. Amy is new here. She doesn't know what goes on around here. So maybe we can all help her out. What do you say?"
     Allie's face lit up. I knew that I would have to watch out for her if she was going to be around these girls. "Hi, Allie. My name's Amy."
     "Hi. I have to go get my lunch. I wanted to buy today."
     I watched her as she went through the lunch line, though I had no reason why. Amber and Ashley were nowhere to be seen when I looked back to our table. Then I spotted them. I couldn't help but laugh when they came back to our table looking defeated. Allie came back with her tray at the same time. That was when I noticed someone watching her. It was the guy that I was staring at in math that morning. I heard Amber and Ashley laughing to themselves about something. I heard Allie's name. I went up to the table where  the boy that was staring at her was sitting. "Hi. I don't mean to interrupt your lunch. But you guys need to go get Allie. I think Amber and Ashley are up to something."
     The girl that was with whom smiled at me. "Thanks a lot. What's your name? My name is Hannah Jamison."
     "My name is Amy Gerhartz."
     "Why don't you sit with us. "
     I figured that I had nothing else to lose. "Sure."
     "By the way, that is Matt Anderson. He's kind of protective over Allie."
     I wanted to ask why, but new that I shouldn't. I watched as Matt went to get Allie.  "It looks like it."
     I agreed to eat with them the next day. I hope that I was really going to make friends with them. They seemed like they were really nice. I really wanted to have some friends over the summer break. I still hated the fact that Ben was going to be leaving me, though.
