Avery's POV
After my conversation with Hayden about flying down to Florida to visit him I hadn't been able to stop thinking about it. Which is saying a lot considering the fact that it's been weeks and now with Christmas coming I finally had an idea.
My mom is in the bathroom getting ready for the vet clinic's annual Christmas party and I think now is the perfect time to finally go and talk to her.
Of course Hannah thinks that now is the perfect time to throw off this plan and call me. "Hey Han" I answer, sitting back down on my bed. "What's up?" I ask, attempting to push down my impatience.
"I heard a rumor from a certain mutual friend of ours." I roll my eyes. The mutual friend was clearly Hayden and I wish she would just spit out what it was she wanted to say.
"Okay" I reply, annoyance seeping into my voice.
"Your house is gonna empty tonight, is that right?" I groan, knowing where this is going and not liking it one bit.
"Han-."
"Just a few friends. Hayden, Emma...Ben." I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. Why would she want to invite Emma and Ben? They were practically one person at this point, attached at the mouth.
"Why?" I ask, unable to come up with anything else to say.
She groans. "Why not? Come on, please Av."
I hate how much of a pushover I am. I sigh deeply and begin nodding my head. "Yea. Okay. That's fine. But no one else."
"Ah!" She shrieks in excitement. "You rock Av! I promise it's gonna be so much fun." And then the call disconnects.
I sigh, taking my phone from my ear and composing a text to Hayden.
Avery
Hey. Apparently I'm hosting a get together tonight and ofc your invited
Hayden
Sounds fun. See you tonight babe 😘
With that finally settled I stand up and head down the hall to my parent's room. My dad is on the bed flipping through stations on the television while he waits for my mom and he offers me a quick wave when I walk past him.
"Hey mom" I smile, knocking on the doorframe. She looks away from the mirror that she's using to apply her mascara and smiles back at me.
"Hey sweetheart. What's up?" She asks, going back to her make-up application. I don't blame her, at this point I'm pretty sure her and my dad are on course to be late to his party so she couldn't waste one more second.
"I uh wanted to talk to you about my Christmas present" I explain, walking into the room and hoping my dad doesn't overhear. The last thing I need is for him to go over the deep end with theories as to why I really want to go down to visit Hayden.
"Oh. Okay. I mean, your father and I have a few ideas-."
"I want plane tickets" I blurt out, taking a seat on the edge of the tub as she spins around to face me.
"Plane tickets?"
I nod, pursing my lips. "Yea. It's just-. Hayden is going to be flying back here to visit which is great but I want to make an effort too. So, I'd like plane tickets to and from Florida."
