The sun was shining bright on the fourth week of school, the sky blue, deceiving most by the chilly Scottish spring so most of the students were roaming inside the castle, well except for a specific trio of girls, who were walking towards a rather large tree at the edge of the water.
"It's only a few weeks in and we already have essays to write!", Adeline says in despair, while dramatically slumping onto the grass underneath the tree.
"It's not that bad", Lily says with a chuckle, smiling at her other best friends antics.
"Not that bad? Not that bad?! Aurelia and you are fine because you guys are the top of your classes! I will just be swallowed up by all the parchment and ink!"
Secretly Aurora envied Adeline. Adeline knew what she wanted to become; a wand maker like Ollivander. Thus she did well in subjects like Charms, Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures. In the other subjects... well, Adeline was not as focused. Although this did cause her to daydream in the classes, much to the other professor's dismay. Aurora had always thought that if the Hufflepuff spent more time listening to her professors like she did with those subjects she was interested in, then she would indeed be a very accomplished student, But she was also awed by the passion that her Hufflepuff friend had for wandlore. It seemed it had also captured the attention of Professor Dumbledore since he had apparently spoken to Ollivander,, in regard to her apprenticeship after her education. Aurora remembered the day quite clearly...
The trio were once again visiting Hagrid, helping him with the magical beasts on the ground, when a regal looking owl landed in front of poor unsuspecting Adeline, giving her quite the fright.
"Oh my golly goodness, you gave me a right fright there little one!", Adeline scolds to the owl, while holding a hand to her chest. On seeing the owl hoot sadly, Aurelia instantly recovered giving the owl some dead Flitterby moths.
"Oh I didn't mean to get angry with ya, oh here's some Flitterby moths as an apology." The owl hooted happily, giving Adeline a small affectionate nip on her index finger before flying away. Now turning her attention to the important looking envelope, she cautiously tears the Hogwarts wax seal. While reading the letter, Adeline's smile began to get wider and wider, her eyes tearing up as she closes it and turns to her two best-friends.
"Dumbledore has helped me get an apprenticeship with Ollivander after my 7th year!", Adeline cries out. Immediately Aurora and Lily squeal in delight!
"Ah Dumbledore, he's a gu man he is," Hagrid's gruff but kind voice comes in.
"Oh don't you think! ? He's absolutely amazing, an opportunity like this is one in a million!"
Aurora's heart bloomed at the sight of her best friend nearly at tears by the kindness of their headmaster. Adeline deserves it though. She had been so passionate about wand lore, talking a bout it every chance she could get, trying to educate her best friends in the art of wand lore to no avail. A tricky business crafting wands, the most beautiful wands hand the most intricate charms work done to them. Many wand makers like Ollivanders even retrieve their own cores by themselv—
"Aurora? Aurora! God you were in your own little world! Must've been good! It better have had Faeries, Unicorns, Elves and of course a sprinkle of magic," Adeline's voice interrupts my memory and ends up babbling on about day dreams.
"And you should always have mermaids in them, not like the merpeople we have in the Black Lake but the pretty ones."
"Adeline please stop talking about dreams now," Lily asks slightly frazzled by the non-stop talking of the golden-haired girl.
"I was just thinking about the day you got your letter about Ollivanders... and I think we should go see Hagrid to help him with the pumpkins for Hallowe'en this week. There are so many pumpkins and I feel bad that he has to do them all by himself," I intervene in the annoyed Lily rantings.
"Oh what a wonderful idea! See this is why the sorting hat couldn't sort you! Even I'm in Hufflepuff and I didn't think that!", Adeline says cheerfully, smiling at the idea.
"Yes, I think thats quite a nice idea," Lily adds, putting down her Advanced Transfigurations book.
"Dad also has some tips for Hagrid on the Hippogriff Herd that was in the same envelope as my letter..." I mumble as I begin to sketch Lily.
Lily's face brightens as she hears this, "Oh you are so lucky to have Newt Scamader as your father Aur!," she says and I too begin brighten at her words.
"Yes my family is wonderful... Oh that reminds me!" I say with a jolt and look at the two girls with a small smirk, "How would you two like to stay at my house for the holidays?"
