The repressing, sinking feeling was inescapable. Dan watched in horror as blue paint trailed down his wall and splashed onto his floor with a wet thud. One after the other, droplets fell. The relentless motion resembled that of the tears that tracked down Dan's cheeks. Heavy sobs escaped his lips as he thought of Cat tearing through his room, wrecking all the memories they shared together as friends. Dan's voice continued to fail him, even though he wanted nothing more than to let terrible, pain soaked screams erupt and reverberate throughout the house.

Dan was so consumed by the terrible pain he felt, that he failed to notice the creaking of the front door as it swung open on its hinges. He failed to even notice the sound of Phil' heavy footing on the floorboards that lined the hallway. The only indication of Phil's presence was when he finally knelt down and came face to face with Dan. Phil's heart immediately broke at the broken expression that Dan wore. His cheeks were tear stained, and his eyes were bloodshot and puffy. Phil extended a hand and let it rest on Dan's face. He used his thumb to wipe away Dan's tears to the best of his own ability before he let it drop back to his side.

Concern laced Phil's features. As he entered the room, he acknowledged only Dan, who was curled up on the floor, an epitome of pure devastation. The rest of the room was ignored, but as Phil finally to tear his gaze away from the younger boy, he was able to fully comprehend his surroundings. It appeared as if the room had been struck by a natural disaster, or something of similar effect. However, the most striking of the chaos was those blue letters painted with malice on Dan's wall.

For a few moments Phil stared in shock. He was only broken out of his trance after Dan let out another heart wrenching sob. Phil stood abruptly, pulling Dan up after himself. Dan slumped against Phil's form in weakness, and the older man began ushering him quickly towards the front door. Realising this, Dan began to resist.
'Dan, sweetie, what's wrong?' Phil said as calmly as possible, but his eyes were still wide and unblinking, having been thoroughly disturbed by the disarray of Dan's room.
'M-my things,' Dan managed to choke out, holding Phil's gaze.
'I'll come back for them tomorrow. We're leaving now, okay?' Phil replied, then resumed pulling a compliant Dan towards his car.

The car journey commenced in a heavy silence that was occasionally broken by Dan's snivelling. However, the younger's eyes remained fixed on the road ahead. Phil stole occasional glances at Dan, then, after another few minuted of driving, rested his hand upon Dan's thigh. The brunette immediately flinched at the contact, so Phil pulled away, but before his hand could rest again on the steering wheel, Dan caught his thumb and returned the doctor's hand to his jean-clad thigh.
