The fish was how it's spelt. Fish. Doesn't sound fun, it didn't look fun, doesn't sound interesting, didn't taste interesting, it's a simple word, it's a simple dish. The only good things that comes out of it, is filling up your stomachs.
But here you are now, sitting on a piece of your boat, munching on a piece of fruit you still don't know the name to but is a really good. You stare at the night sky view. It's always gorgeous at night. The range of green colours apart of the aurora borealis roaming in the night sky.
Whenever you can't sleep, you sneak among the sleeping villagers and sit among by the river. Your legs crossed, staring at the beautiful sky. Imagining you are on sea, laying back on your boat, sailing to the unknown. Not stuck on the unknown.
You sigh, looking down to your legs. The cool breath brushing past you. You hear howls in the distance. But you don't question what creature it is this time.
This island has so many wonders. Yet you know barely any of them. You wonder how the world still doesn't know of this place. Say, it isn't the easiest place to get to.
You hear footsteps and your head jerks around. Conrad puts his hands up in surrender. A innocent smile on his lips. You chuckle, relaxing your body as he approaches you.
"I was wondering where you were" he says, climbing onto the piece of wood, sitting himself down right next to you. You laugh softly, rubbing the back of your head and looking back up to the night sky.
"It's beautiful isn't it.." You whisper, still amazed by the sight ahead of you. Conrad looks to you and slowly breaks his gaze off of you to the night sky. "It's a dangerous, beautiful, sight, this island is" you tell him. Conrad nods his head in agreement.
"It's funny" he starts. "The most beautiful places are always the most dangerous" he finishes. You snort, you can certainly agree to that one. He smiles and looks back to you. Your details of your expression illuminating by the night sky. "How'd you get here L/N?" he asks softly, his hands rubbing his arms.
"Do you sail Conrad?" You ask, turning your head to Conrad. You wet your dry lips with your tongue as Conrad shakes his head. "I made it my life mission to sail the world" you tell him, looking back to the sky. "My father was a sailor. He'd always take me sailing on free days. And one day- he was sailing to uh, some country across the pacific" you awkwardly laugh. "And that was the day I last saw him" you mumble, feeling the necklace underneath your shirt, lowering your head at the thought of your father.
It goes silent. Conrad just staring at you. Thinking of what to say. You look back up to the beautiful sight and let out a loud sigh.
"I'm sorry.." Conrad apologises, softly and quietly. You slowly look over to him, weakly smiling. "I know how it feels" he tells you. You expression changes to a slightly confused tone. "He was a part of world war 2.. And well, in the end of it. He went missing... People searched for him for months. But, it's either, they didn't search hard enough-" he pauses, his throat becoming stiff.
Your hand slowly raises and lands on his back. You gently rub his back, comforting him. He looks to you, his sad expression lighting up. He smiles softly, and just allows you to comfort him in the nice, soft, sweet way.
"My father gave this to me the day he left" you tell him. Pulling your golden necklace from underneath your shirt. Conrad lets out a 'oo', staring at your golden necklace.
Your necklace has a small golden pendant on it. Conrad's eyes flicker from the necklace to your eyes. You slowly take off the necklace, feeling the gold. You bring the necklace closer to your eye sight, trying to find the writing on the pendant.
"What is it?" Conrad asks, interested in your doings.
"I'm looking for the writing, but it's a bit dark" you snort, your eyes squinting. Conrad laughs and his hand searches for his pocket, he pulls out his lighter.
"Here" he says, lighting his lighter. You smile and bring the necklace to the small flame. "Follow the sea... And see what you find..." He murmurs. "May I?" He asks, gesturing to take it. You nod, handing it to him. He smiles, observing the necklace as you observe his lighter. "My father gave me that lighter the day he left as well.. Chucked it from the window of his train" Conrad informs.
"It's nice to know we have something in common rather than being sick of fish" you laugh, Conrad smiles and laughs as well.
"It is" he agrees. You offer Conrad his lighter back but he shakes his head. "It may be safer in your hands" he tells you. You laugh, blowing out the light and putting it in your pocket.
"Then keep ahold of my necklace" you tell him. He looks from you to your necklace and back to you. Slowly shaking his head. "Come on, you may be able to find something with it" you joke. Conrad laughs lightly and nods his head.
"I promise to keep it safe" he assures you, putting the necklace on around his neck and the pendant underneath his shirt.
It goes silent. You lean closer to him back stare below his head. Only staring at a stream. He stares at you but, wondering what to say. He breathes in and out smoothly. It's the only sound coming from either of you's.
"What's your name Conrad?" You ask, raising your head to be in eye sight with Conrad. Conrad stares at you and weakly smiles.
"It's Conrad.." He tells you, making you laugh and shake your head.
"So you have no first name?" You ask. Conrad grins, staring at your expression. He rubs the back of his neck and sighs softly.
"Of course I have a first name.. But no one uses it. It's a stupid name anyway. I haven't been called it in years. So I just go by the name Conrad now.. Just Conrad, L/N" he informs you, a grin on his lips with the last word he says.
You slowly nod your head, agreeing with him. You still don't like the fact that he calls you by your last name. But you mother didn't raise you to be rude like other people were.
"Well how about this. We get out of here. You tell me your first name.. I'll never call you it. You just have to tell me it" you smile. Conrad grins and agrees by nodding his head.
"Sure, L/N" he says.
