For Twag53
A rather dull meeting was taking place in the stronghold of Rivendell, and all were quite secretly anticipating its joyous end.
Lord Elrond quietly sipped from his goblet and replaced it carefully upon the tray which was being held mere inches from his dominant arm. He looked up to thank the servant who had brought him the refreshment, and then blushed deeply upon seeing the beautiful face of (Y/N).
He moved his gaze slowly from the tray up to her beautiful (e/c), and held her gaze for but a moment before he realized what he was doing.
Elrond shook his head and looked to his lap for just a moment before returning his focus to (Y/N).
Still recovering from his surprise, Elrond prepared to mutter a near-silent word of thanks, and then watched sadly as (Y/N) walked gracefully back to the kitchens. He then sighed and resentfully returned his attention to his council and their guest.
"My Lord, I propose that we invade from the eastern side. You see, my scouts have reported that the orcs have very few soldiers patrolling that border of their camp in particular, and so I conclude that we would receive the best results by attacking them there, the most vulnerable point in their setup," the human soldier voiced sternly.
The council sighed and shook their heads, while Elrond simply refrained from rolling his eyes with great difficulty. He had been sent the young warrior from a neighboring human kingdom briefly after their ruler had heard of the gathering orcs outside of Rivendell. Fearing for the safety of his elven nearby residents, he had "generously" sent a small band of soldiers to the elven lords that they might use for battle.
However, Lord Elrond and his council had already discussed the matter of the enemy's move, and they had all agreed that they would maintain peace until the orcs chose to invade Rivendell. Only then would they use means of violence against them.
They had explained this to the human soldiers, but soon found their efforts to be fruitless.
"Sir Direloth, we have already explained our final decision to you," Elrond said in a bored tone, rubbing his temples. "We will not fight the orcs unless they themselves proceed to show signs of aggression. Until then, we will leave them at peace."
"I understand that, Lord Elrond," Direloth assured, though he clearly did not. "You simply must know, however, that the orcs are not only a danger to your people, but to all surrounding beings as well."
"Don't some of our neighboring peoples have armies twice the size of our own?" inquired Elrond. He already knew the answer to this, yet he wished to test the young soldier and his seemingly limited viewpoint.
"Alas! Yes! However they, unlike you, will willingly use their power to strike the orcs and force them to retreat into the mountains!"
"Are you suggesting that we fight against our will when there are others clearly just as capable willing to do so themselves?" one of the high elves demanded.
Direloth faltered, as though realizing his mistake. However, he soon attempted to recover, "Surely not, my good elf. I am merely saying that we cannot risk waiting for the foul beasts to attack when we can push them back to the mountains as we are able now."
"Enough!" Elrond snapped as several of his fellows prepared to rebuke the man's claim. Everyone turned to face him. Elrond cleared his throat and quietly dismissed the council, causing all attendees to set off in different directions, each fuming for a particular reason.
At last Elrond rose from his seat, and began wondering if he should go off to find (Y/N). Turning to the direction in which (Y/N) had gone earlier, he hastily made his decision.
