"Hey, I was wondering if you wanted to go go-karting with us?" Austin asked me as if I had a choice.
"Sure, is it all of us?" I asked him.
"Yeah, Zach wants to race Alex." Austin told me.
"Well, I guess I can't miss that. I'll be ready in like ten minutes." I said to Austin before closing my door.
I had to choose my outfit carefully, the paps would be all over this. Yellow floral shorts, black muscle tank, and Vans would work. I put my hair up in a messy bun and grabbed a pair of sunglasses.
When Austin and I walked out of the apartment building there was already paparazzi snapping pictures and asking questions. Austin had hold of my hand and helped me through the crowd of people into his Range Rover. Alex, Robert, and Zach followed closely behind us but the chaos had weakened before they came out. It was obvious that the paparazzi was going to follow us to the Go-Kart place.
"Jeez, you guys got mobbed!" Robert said from the back seat.
"Yeah, it's worse than usual.." I said. Usually there were three or four but there were twenty guys out there today.
"I see a van following us." Zach said looking out the back window.
"Well, I guess they were going to find us anyways.." Austin said. I felt bad, the paparazzi always ruined things for Austin, we all never got to do anything fun without them intruding.
"You know what? Fuck them. We can have fun with or without them watching." I said as I rolled down my window to let the fresh Miami air into the car.
"You're right, Maddie. They're not ruining our fun from now on." Austin said rolling down everyone else's windows and turning the radio up.
We were riding in silence a few minutes before we heard, "Now we got your own Miami boy up next, here's Austin Mahone with Banga Banga!" The DJ said as the song began. Austin still thought it was crazy to hear himself on the radio. We all sang along, Robert's impression of Austin was so funny that I started to cry. One thing's for sure, the paparazzi wasn't ruining this day.

Unfortunately, they had other plans for Valentine's Day, the most critical day of our fake relationship. This was a make or break situation. Austin's team was so smart by keeping me out of the loop so when something cute happens, I'll be genuinely surprised. I'll give them a little credit even though I'm still pissed about the Kelly and Michael stunt they pulled. The paparazzi were going to make this night a living hell. I already knew it because there was a mob outside that I could see from my window.
I came back earlier in the day from shopping for a gift with Michele, we decided to get him tickets to a Miami Heat game for just him and the rest of the guys and we got him a dog tag necklace that said 'Carter, Mema, and Angel' on the front and 'Gone too soon. Forever missed' on the back. Michele thought it was so sweet.
"I wish that this hadn't happened the way it did sweetie. I would've loved for you to actually date Austin. He needs a lady like yourself." She had told me.
This made me think. What was I doing? This whole relationship was going to end and all this time that I had taken to get to know Austin was worth nothing because even if I did like him, other than the attraction I had to his shirtlessness and his humor and smile and personality and his talent, okay I did like him, I liked him a lot. But he would never like me, Maddie Duncan, a plain Jane, compared to these other girls, I had no chance, at all.
When I reached my room, feeling down from my thoughts, I was surprised to find a dress with a shoe box on my bed. I walked over and admired the short red dress. It was embellished with hundreds and hundreds of tiny golden gems on the bodice and then smoothed out for a fit at the bottom that flowed. On top of the shoe box there was a note. 'Wear this tonight. Dinner at 7. Be ready at 6:30. Love, Austin.' I opened the shoe box to find a pair of gold gladiator sandals and some gold jewelry from Forever 21.
