My mother sends me to camp
For two weeks.
"You need to get out of the house more," she tells me.
I argue, but in the end
It makes no difference.
I find myself being shipped to Maine
Armed with nothing but my backpack.
My bunkmate, who's from Maine herself, introduces herself when I arrive.
"I'm Anna," she says holding out her hand for me to shake.
"Maddie," I respond grasping her hand.
She smiles.
