Life can be unfair. Life can be cruel. But sometimes, that's how life hands you the most beautiful of things.

You knew this. You could read it on his expression. Those eyes of gold that used to hold ice now gazed at you with admiration and kindness.

You met him after yet another catastrophic disaster hit in your hometown, City B. You were incredibly grateful for all his efforts. It wasn't easy getting to you during that chaos, yet he did. Out of all the heroes dispatched in the area, he did.

It was fuzzy and faint, but you distinctly remember their yells: It was too late. They couldn't save you in time. The building had collapsed on you and all they would 'save' was a corpse.

Your breathing was hard and ragged; they were probably right. You wouldn't make it.

Just as the dust settled over your eyes, a blur of light blinded you. You recalled a broad body silhouetted by the glow before you descended to the depths of your unconsciousness.

When you awoke, you searched up and down for the person, for your savior. You felt indebted to the person and sought them out. You discovered that being to be Genos, the Demon Cyborg.

You recalled seeing the media explode with news of the handsome new recruit, but this was the first time you had directly encountered anything with the hero. And they were right, he was brilliant.

You bowed meekly to the man while words of thanks spilled out of your mouth. Your whole body was shaking while you rambled on. Why was that? Maybe you were still recovering from the shock of the event or maybe it was the cyborg's fiercely intimidating eyes.

Either way, he didn't notice. He waved you off saying it was part of the job and swiftly left the building. You were awestruck. Although his tone was brisk, somehow you knew that didn't he mean to come off as rude. It was just his personality.

Feeling as if you hadn't quite gotten your appreciation through, you resigned to writing your cyborg savior a letter. It was possible he wouldn't read it. After all, popular heroes were always swamped with fan mail. You laughed at the prospect of him writing you back.

After that, you would often catch the glint of his metallic armor on the television news, and although he didn't necessarily help you, you wrote him a letter in gratitude for saving the lives of those who couldn't defend themselves. You even wrote one for the funny bald man who was always with him.

And that's what you did. For every act of courage, you responded with an act of kindness. The cyborg could've chosen not to save you that day, but instead he risked his life for you. Not a lot of heroes would do that, at least not most of the ones right now. The world needed more heroes like the cyborg, and you wanted to make sure he knew his efforts were much appreciated.

However, there was a time where you could no longer write. You were struck with a severe sickness and were in bed for almost a week, preventing you from any acts but sleep. You weren't exactly above the poverty line so you couldn't go to a hospital either. You were still stressing about the previous nightmare bill you received after the cyborg had admitted you in the hospital. No... getting help was not an option.

You were awkwardly swaying into the kitchen one morning to get water when a knock was heard at the door. The sound vibrated in your brain causing you to groan in pain.

You weakly unlocked the door and peeked out. That's when you started to question whether you were hallucinating now. Your eyes met ones of molten gold that froze you on the spot.

"Excuse me, but does (y/n) (l/n) live here?" The handsome cyborg questioned.

You wanted to nod, but you still couldn't get over the shock of seeing your hero at your front door. That overwhelming moment must have been what did you in because your body could no longer support you and you passed out before you could even hit the floor.
