"So, how was your date with that Freya girl?" I ask Josh, giving not a single fuck about his answer as I was too jealous inside.

Why'd I even ask anyway?

"Oh it was amazing. We kissed!" Josh exclaims and hugs me.

I smile at his presence and snuggle into the crook of his neck.

"Thats great! I'm so happy for you." I lie.

"Well, it's all thanks to you! You made it happen!" Josh thanks and kisses my cheek.

I feel my cheeks heat up. I smile uncontrollably and look at him.

"No, no. It's fine." I grin, regretting even asking Freya if she wanted to go out with Josh.

It should of been me. Not her. Me.

"And guess what else happened!" Josh says excitedly.

"What?" I ask.

"I asked her to be girlfriend, and she said yes!" Josh exclaims.

My smile drops as my heart shatters

~

"What have you been up to for the past five years?" Josh asks me as we both enter his clean bedroom, full of games and consoles.

"Nothing much. Worked my ass off for a job but never ended up getting it." I frown. "What about you? Still with Freya?" I ask, cringing at my own words.

"Oh, Freya? Yeah. It's our sixth year anniversary tomorrow!" Josh smiles happily.

A picture of him and Freya was sat on his desk.

"That's sweet." I comment.

"She's coming round tonight." Josh adds.

I nod, wanting to shake my head in denial as I hated them two together. It's weird how my feelings for Josh started to fade, but now I've seen him again, I'm in love with him more than I did before. It hurts to know he holds other girl, who isn't me.

"It's funny how you used to brag about you and Freya." I state.

"I was in love with her. And I still am." He smiles brightly and stares at the wall, clearly thinking about her.

My eyes start to ache. Scared to blink in case I cry. I don't speak as I don't trust my own words.

"She's so beautiful, an-and so funny." Josh gazes.

Aren't I beautiful, or funny? Did I not stay up at four in the morning just so I knew he was okay? Wasn't I enough?

I avoid eye contact. My head aches. I feel Josh's eyes on me.

"Have you found anyone?" Josh asks me.

He's standing right in front of me.

I still don't look at him.

"No." I mumble silently, my voice barely audible.

"I'm sure you will." I could hear the hope in his tone.

"Mhm." I hum.

I look at Josh. "you never know." I add annoyingly.

Josh shrugs his shoulders and walks over to me, hugging me tightly.

"I really missed you. It's been weird without your help for the last five years." Josh sighs.

"Me too, Joshua!" I giggle and embrace him tighter.

The sound of the door bell interrupted us.

"She's here!" Josh exclaims, grabbing my hand and dragging me downstairs.
