June 12th. It's 5:32 - Devin Oliver
BTW, DEVIN IS 23 IN THIS AND IT TAKES PLACE IN THE USA. THE BEACH IS BASED ON A PLACE CALLED NEW CASTLE. THERE ISN'T A PRISON, BUT THERE'S AWESOME TUNNELS AND SHIT, I SUGGEST GOING THERE IF YOU CAN…IF NOT, THINK ABOUT A LESS 'SHITTY' (NO PUN INTENDED) TUNNEL FROM SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. YOU'LL ONLY GET THE PUN OF YOU'VE SEEN THE MOVIE. OKAY. BYE. ALSO, PRETEND THE SONG 'HUMMINGBIRD' BY NEVERSHOUTNEVER WAS NEVER WRITTEN…KAY? KAY. SORRY FOR THE WAIT
"Dev, where the hell are we going?" I sighed, feeling my arms flinch a bit as I shivered and closed my eyes.
"Can't tell you, Alex, it'll ruin the surprise." Devin grinned like a bobcat and wriggled around to face me in the small cave like place he forced me to go into. It was moments like these that I wished he was like my ex-boyfriend, Darren, purely because Darren continuously forgot my birthday, and didn't make me do anything like this. But then again, Devin remembered my birthday, all three of my brother's birthdays, our months anniversaries, our first kiss, our first dance, our first fight, the first time we had sex, the first time we made up, the first time we broke up, he remembered everything, and made each event much more sweeter than before, sometimes, driving me insane, but also reminding me how lucky I was. Devin liked to push me to my limits, making sure that I would live my life to the fullest; so that would explain why we were spending time at the beach on my birthday, and it was a beach that was once where a failed prison sat. Too many prisoners escaped from the jail that it was shut down. There were so many man made tunnels that it was now a tourist's attraction, and of course, if it had anything to do with prisons and dangerous criminals escaping to live among us, Devin fucking Oliver had to be involved.
"Dev, I don't think that this is safe." I chattered, my teeth clicking together, just realizing how cold it really was. Devin smiled at me and pulled off his thin sweatshirt for me. I was wearing my 100% cotton coverup and ignored the fact that Devin had told me this morning to dress warmly, now thankful that he handed me his black hoodie. It was a zip up and I struggled to wrap it around myself and zip it halfway up so my shoulders were slightly exposed, cringing against the slight breeze.
I grinned sheepishly at him and Devin winked, scooting a little more towards a small light that must've led somewhere nice. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and crawled up after him, trying to ignore the sticky mud that clung to my rain boots.
"Almost there, Lex." he cheered, pulling himself out of the tunnel to where the warm light was streaming in, teasing me. I sneered and rolled my eyes at my boyfriend, carefully running my free hand through my brown hair. Devin was laughing as he turned from his safe spot in the open and held out his hands for me. I shoved the sleeves of his sweatshirt up and grasped his hands as he pulled me up, lifting me from the ground for several seconds and holding me against his warm chest and setting me on the ground, kissing my nose. I blushed furiously and felt a slight breeze on my skin, sniffing the salty air.
I pulled away from him and looked around in awe. The tunnel led out to a hill which oversaw the beach side. I could see young kids going into different tunnels, some others looking at the remains of the old jailhouse, some young teens glancing at the entrance of the tunnel that Dev and I had clambered our way through. Devin chuckled.
"Don't worry, babe. They won't get in. I set up a sign."
The way Devin said it so casually made me look up at him in confusion. His eyes twinkled as he winked. "What'd the sign say?"
"That it was closed due to the middle of the tunnel caving in." Devin shrugged. "Isn't the view pretty?"
Pretty was an understatement as I watched the waves crash against the sand, the wind making my eyes sting slightly, the now descending 4:30 sun beginning to make it's journey down, my nose catching the smell of seat water, fish, and-croissants?
