The Subconscious Crush - Jaime Preciado

Rachel's arm laid across my waist, drawing me a little closer subconsciously. I let my hand fall on my roommate's hair, gently playing with it while I watched the movie, actually getting into it. She promised that she wouldn't fall asleep. Lying bitch.

I heard my door open and I glanced up. "Hey Jai-"

"Shh!" I hissed, glaring at the intruder, who happened to be Tony and Mike. Mike almost stumbled when he was Rachel sleeping on my couch, body wrapped around mine.

"Did you guys fuck?" whispered Mike. My eyes widened.

"Fuck, no! She's like my sister, dude. I love her, but I'm not in love with her."

Tony scoffed at my words and rolled his eyes. "Sure, sure." he laughed, shaking his head.

"Anyway." I continued dully. "She has a boyfriend."

"Of course." Mike laughed.

"What's that supposed to mean, whiskey hands?" mumbled Rachel's voice as she sat up, rubbing her head.

"Oh, you're awake." Mike said, blushing a little. I sent Mike a glare, but he acted all innocent like it wasn't actually him who said anything. I rolled my eyes and Rachel sighed.

"Speaking of him, I have to get ready for our date. Hime, do you mind feeding the cat tonight? I don't know if I'm coming home tonight." Rachel asked, yawning. I shrugged.

"Yeah, sure." I said nonchalantly, trying not to think of her asshole boyfriend. Rachel nodded and kissed my cheek, mumbling a thanks. As she disappeared into my room, Tony took her place and grinned wearily at me.

"Hmm, Jaime." Tony teased. I frowned and looked over at the man who I called my friend.

"What?"

"You and Rachel are gettin' closer, and closer, and closer," Tony mused. I ignored him, but he only kept at it. "Rachel Preciado. That has a nice ring to it, don't it, Mike?"

"Shut up." I snapped. "She's like, my best friend."

"Sure." Mike snickered. "The kind of best friend that you won't stop talking about because her boyfriend is a dick-"

"Her boyfriend is a dick!" I shouted. "She can do so much better than that prick! He's the epitome of disgusting! He's going to hurt her!"

"And, you want to be with her." Mike concluded.

"I don't!" I sighed, running my hands through my hair, shaking my head slowly. "You don't understand. She's my best friend, and that's it." The two giggled like immature assholes and I rolled my eyes. "Why are you guys here anyway?"

"Does it really matter?" Tony asked, raising an eyebrow. I sighed, once again, defeated.

"No, I guess not." I mumbled. Mike chuckled and rubbed his neck.

"Well, if you really want to know, Vic wanted us to pick you up so we could go to the recording session."

I glanced around after hearing a slight clattering as Rach's cat knocked over one of her mini cactuses.

"Aight." I grunted. "I'd better tell Rachel that I'm leaving, so the fuckin' cat's in her care."

"Or you want a chance to see her naked..." Tony added on innocently. I sent him a glare.

"Already seen her naked." I said, shrugging. "Wasn't a big deal."

Mike wolf-whistled, but I ignored the man as I walked to the bathroom where Rachel was taking a shower. Her phone was playing a song by Our Last Night called: Across The Ocean. It was the acoustic version and I remember introducing the song to her a few weeks back.
