I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet
so I leaned in for a hug instead.

He gladly accepted my embrace,
leaning his head on my shoulder.

It felt like he was melting in my arms.

He had needed this.

We stood like that for a while.

With each second passing
I could feel the tension
leaving his body more and more.

I slowly traced shapes
on his back with the tips of my fingers.

As my hands found their way up
I suddenly felt something under his shirt.

And then he jumped away from me
releasing a pain filled scream.

His face was scrunched up
and reflected the emotions
of the sound he had just made.

It took him only a second.

He suddenly looked up at me
worried
and straightened up immediately.

He tried to hide his pained expression.

"I'm sorry. You see, I fell down some stairs a few days ago and injured my back. But it's nothing serious."

It sounded believable enough.

But I felt like something was off.
Like he was lying to me.

But why would he?

Suddenly he seemed in a hurry.
He wished me a good night
and left quickly.

And suddenly it was like
he had never been there in the first place.
