As I was on the road I was also teaching myself Portuguese. I had to travel with Flint for the simple fact that he and I were the same act. We'd get there before the rest and leave after everyone.
"So your studying a foreign language to understand this one?" He asked as we arrived at the next event. "Sim." I answered him. "What is that?" He asked. "That would be a yes Flint." I said. So far I've learn the simple questions and practiced on Flint. I'm studying the colors at the moment.
"Oh and the Brazilians usually don't go back to their country until the summer." Flint said. "You say that like their a plague." I said. I went back to my language lesson ignoring him as I helped set the cords and such up.
I repeated the word in English and in Portuguese as I helped out. By the time the bulls were arriving the Brazilians had also arrived. I was sitting next to Kaique wanting get to know him. "Qual a sua cor preferida?" I asked him. "Azul. Qual a sua cor preferida?" He asked me. "Mesmo." I answered. We both have the same favorite color and who doesn't exactly like the color blue?
"Comida favorita?" He asked. "Cascavel frita ou churrasco costelas." Fried rattlesnake or barbecue ribs. "Você?" I asked him. "Qualquer coisa que envolva comida." He answered. Any kind of food.
"Você é divertido estar por perto." He said. I knew he said you're but I didn't get the rest of what he was saying. I gave him a slight confused look. "Tradutor?" He asked. I opened my phone's translator and set it to Portuguese on top and English as the need for the words to be translated.
Then handed it to him. He typed in what he said and handed it to me. I read it finding out that he thinks I'm fun to be around. I then switched it and typed in that he was fun to be around too.
He then asked for it again and typed something in before handing it back. It was typed out clearly. Teach me English. He wanted to understand what Americans were saying without having trouble comprehending.
I then typed in that English is a hard language to learn but I would try and let him read it. He nodded like he understood. We were by ourselves behind the chutes. I raised my hand and waved. "Hi." I said. He did the same. "Oi." I said while waving. Then showed him the translation. "Hi." He said.
I then said a sentence using the Portuguese term then said it with the English version. He caught on easily with that one. "Olá." I said waving again. He copied. "Hello." I said doing the same thing. It took a little longer but he got hello down too. I then taught him goodbye and a few other easy words.
He got the hang of them quickly after going through them a time or two. While I was learning his home language he was learning mine. He stood up when we saw the rest of the Brazilian riders. Then helped me to my feet. "Thank you." I said to him. "You. Are. Wel-come." He got out.
Not going to lie but he did catch on quickly. "Are you teaching him English?" Guilherme asked. "Yeah." I answered. "Starting off small and working your way up?" He asked. I nodded.
If he wanted to learn English then I was willing to teach him. And he could help me learn Portuguese.
All during our free time we found a quiet spot and went over the things we learned and a few new things. He taught me a few curse words that he thought I needed to know just in case.
I chuckled as he tried to say something. What I tried to get him to say I don't remember anymore. "What?" He asked perfectly. "Nothing." I said shaking my head. He looked at me confused. "Nada." I repeated in Portuguese.
"Frango." He said. "Frango." I repeated. "Chick-en." He tried to get out. "Frango é Chicken?" I asked. He nodded. We both were catching onto the words each other were saying. He was now teaching me the Portuguese version of certain animals that were in their food dishes.
For the rest of the day we talked and learned a few new things about each other. He's a great guy to be around and I love to spend time around him.
