“Ezra! But you’re dead I watched my Dad shot you!” I didn’t know what to do. Was I going crazy? No wait this was a dream, right?
“You saw your Dad shot me in the stomach. He thought it would kill me slowly, but I managed to get out and make it to the hospital in time for them to save me.
“Why are you here?” I asked.
He looked at me before glancing at the door, “Rose, come in here.”
I watched as the young girl came in and hugged his leg. “They couldn’t kill or take her because she was taught to hide in the attack shelter incase anything ever happened. She stayed hidden until I returned to get her.”
“How can I help you though?” I asked scrunching up my eyebrows.
“She’s not my daughter but I promised her dad I would raise her for him before he died. I know you don’t know me and you probably hate me for kidnapping you, but I have nothing and need your help with her.”
I looked at the little girl. She looked around five years old. Her curly blonde hair and hazel eyes were beautiful. I knew though if I promised to help him I would have to let go off Scott and me old life.
I looked up at Ezra who had hope in his eyes. “Stay here for a little while. Stay hidden and keep her hidden as well! If someone comes into the house hide.”
He nodded his head. Getting out of the bed I walked over and kneeled before Rose. “Rose you’re a very brave and beautiful little girl, I hope you know that.” She didn’t hesitate throwing her arms around me and hugging me tight.
We stayed like that for a long time. Finally though I broke the hug and showed them both to rooms that were side by side and connected so he would be able to keep an eye on her.
“Keep I sleep in your room,” Rose’s soft voice questioned.
I nodded my head a little, “Sure sweetie. Come with me.”
Ezra looked at me with a glow in his eyes. “She likes you. Thank you for this.”
“It’s for the girl and I never said I was going to help you the rest of her life.”
Picking up Rose I walked out of the room and took her to my room. Laying her down I looked at her wore out clothes I hadn’t noticed them before. As she drifted off to sleep I looked at the sizes on her shoes, shirt, pants and panties. I needed to make a quick phone call before I could sleep again.
---
I had been sleeping for maybe two hours when I felt someone shaking me awake. Sitting up I looked at Rose, she had fear in her eyes.
“Is something wrong?” I asked.
“Someone is at the door. They’ve been knocking for a long time. It’s getting louder and louder.” Her eyes were wide.
“Come with me.” Without thinking I grabbed her up and run towards Ezra’s bedroom. Half way there I saw him running towards me.
“Who’s here,” he said urgently.
“I don’t know. Take Rose and hide. Stay hidden no matter what.”
He took off back down the hallway with the young girl in his arms. I made sure they were back in the room before making my way to the front door. Going to the front door I started wondering how they even got in here. Oh well too late to ask now.
