"Cleo, can you set up the table, please?" I asked.
She nodded, "Yeah, I'll turn on the Christmas lights too." She offered, and left.
In case you're wondering, no, it's not Christmas. It's actually mid-June, but the Christmas lights set up the Wednesday night meeting mood flawlessly. Also, since when do we care about unspoken rules? We're too old for that shit.
When Cleo left the kitchen, she left Finn and I alone. I was doing the dishes and Finn was putting them back on their respective drawers. Yes, we were doing the dishes at Cleo's house. That's how our family works, what can we say? We help each other out. Although we don't live here with her, this house is as much ours as it is hers. We're not visitors. This is our second place.
"How are you feeling?" I whispered to her. She let out a strong sigh.
"Nervous, actually. I really want you guys to like him."
"Look, if he's anything like how you described him, we will love him. Don't worry about it."
"Yeah well you know how this works. If you guys don't like him, this can't work out. There's no way I'm not stressing over that."
"You have to remember that we want to like him. And no matter what, we're on your team."
She smiled. "GB for life."
"GB for life."
The doorbell rang. "It's Bennet, Harley, and Cads. They all came together." I said. "I'll get it."
They all came in and for once, we were all on time. We wanted Scorpio to get there after all of us, for a proper introduction.
We all sat around the table and waited patiently. Finn's legs bobbing up and down anxiously and her fingers always typing something on her phone; probably directions of how to get to Cleo's for Scorpio.
Not ten minutes later, the doorbell rang.
All of us stood up at once, but I was the fastest to reach the door.
I looked at them before I opened it.
And then I did.
"Anyone order a pizza?" He asked, and we all saw him stand there with a wide grin, holding two pizza's and a plastic bag.
I helped him with the pizzas and said he could come in.
I walked over to the table and rested the pizzas there. The girls awkwardly smiled at the boy.
Finn ran to him (even though they were barely five steps apart).
"Scorpio, these are my girls." She said, and pointed at us in order of farthest to closest from him. "Arcadia, Harley, Bennet, Cleo, and Everest."
"Everest, as in Mount?" He asked.
"Yes." I replied, smiling politely at the joke I'd only heard about a million times. "Please, take a seat." I said, and he did, beside Finn. "If Felicity were here today she'd love you forever for the pizza." I said, breaking the ice. And Bennet agreed with me with a oh my goodness, yes!
"Felicity is one of the Girl's Bathroom member but misses out a lot, right?" He asked.
We looked at Finn confused.
She chuckled, "I may or may not have told him all about you guys." She admitted.
"Mind if we test you on it?" Arcadia asked him. He looked at Finn and she raised her eyebrows; implying she was okay with the eye even though it sounded dangerous.
