Cursed
Chapter 11
The rest of the week went by pretty much a blur. Sam and I hung out almost everyday, which I keep thinking was because he didn't like the fact of me being all by myself in a giant house while my Mom went out with some friends. I'm sure if I had told her about her husband and my Dad stalking me by now, she would be glued to my side, the doors would be locked tight- even though it's pointless since we're dealing with ghosts here- and I'd probably never see light of day again except maybe through the cracks of some closed shutters. Our house would look entirely abandoned from the outside.
You'd think I'd be completely safe with Sam constantly by my side, which to be honest, I really did feel ten times better than I would by myself, but even with a burly guy protecting me, it didn't stop the nightmares, the seeing of a shadow in various places, and the occasional headaches I'd get when I thought of my Dad and his ominous laughter too much. I think Sam finally came to a firm understanding of just exactly where my headaches were coming from, so he tried his hardest to keep my mind on other things. He was a really sweet guy. And that's why I'm dreading the moment when I have to tell him goodbye for an entire week.
He's going with his parents all the way to North Dakota to see family for a full seven days. He begged his parents for me to come, after I told him it was way too much, and his Mother was the one to finally put her foot down. She explained how inappropriate the situation was. Sam didn't stop there, though. He tried getting my Mom to fly out to North Dakota with me, but my Mom claimed she couldn't afford it. After Sam almost shoved a wad of money into her hands, she just laughed and said that we weren't going. Sam then pouted in my room while I finished up some math homework on my bed. He would come up with a dumb idea every once in awhile, and the fact that he was totally serious made me laugh a couple times. One suggestion, in particular, was actually my favorite...
Sam cocked his head up with a bright smile. "I've got it!" He exclaimed.
I lazily rolled my head up and waited.
"I can put you in my carry-on bag! Then, once we get there and I take you out, they'll have to let you stay!"
I stared at him like he had grown four eyes in a matter of seconds. It made it worse since you could see that he was completely serious. "Sam," I started. "I am not going to be stuffed in a bag for eight hours. That's ridiculous."
He slouched back into his seat with a defeated frown. "Fine."
Even with his relentless ideas popping up in his mind, he had to face the inevitable. So here we were, at my doorstep because Sam forced his parents to pick him up here so he could be with me until the last possible second. His arms were around me, his face buried into my hair. We stood like that for a good five minutes until I pulled back and held both of his shoulders in place, making him look me in the eyes.
“Just have fun, okay?” I said.
“Not possibl,.” Sam stated with a stubborn frown.
I tilted my head. “Come on. At least try. It's not like it's the end of the world. And plus, I'll see you in no time. Time will fly, I promise.”
Comments like these went back and forth between us until twenty minutes had passed by and his parents were growing impatient. They actually had the audacity to honk the horn.
Knowing he wouldn't stop talking for the life of him, I took his hands and kissed him. Sparks flew inside my body, but I could taste the sadness on his lips. I pulled away, but Sam just rushed forward to fill the gap again. I laughed slightly and pressed on his chest with my hands. He finally pulled back, rather slowly. I smiled sadly at him.
