Arnina sat down across from Susa at lunch, practically glowing. "I finished the book last night."
"Nice!" Susa leaned forward. "And how was it?"
"It was fantastic!" Arnina exclaimed. This launched an animated fangirling session, which was still in progress when Lilya plopped down next to Susa.
"Someone's excited," she joked. "It's like you got together yesterday and planned this out, or something!"
"We ran into one another at the library," Arnina replied nonchalantly. "She helped me pick out some books."
"It was no big deal," Susa said, a little bashfully.
"Of course it was! You introduced me to the greatest book I'd ever read!"
"Well, as you said, you hadn't read many others before."
"Well, even my illiterate self could tell that the book was incredible," Arnina laughed. "That J.K. Rowling's has certainly got talent!"
"Just wait until you read the rest of the-"
"Whoa there! Hold your horses!" Lilya interrupted suddenly. "I don't know what the heck is going on, but can't you two resume this lovely debate when there isn't any third wheel here?" she teased, pointing to herself.
"Oh! Can we go back to the library again today?" Arnina asked Susa. She shrugged, feeling shyer after Lilya's input.
"Sure," she turned to Lilya. "You want to come, Lil?"
"Sorry, but I'm busy today. But you two have fun...together." Susa thought she saw hurt in Lilya's eyes, until she smoothed over her expression. Was Lilya...jealous?
Susa shook off the thought. Lilya wouldn't be hurt if Susa suddenly had a new friend. She'd never really seemed to care about her before- she wasn't a super empathetic friend. So why should things be different now?
