It was four am & I don't know why we were having this conversation
I was exhausted, but watching the stars start to fade made me feel-- which was something I haven't done in awhile
I guess you felt it too as you slowly faced me with those eyes. That steely blue that shifted to a drowsy grayish when you were tired. You asked me "Have you ever fallen in love?"
My heart, time, and its possible that the earth ceased too. I wasn't prepared, didn't think I would ever be for that gut wrenching question
"Have you ever fallen in love?" You repeated the question more slowly this time, making sure I heard each and every word. Mustering all the strength I had and gripping my shaking hands together to make them quit trembling, I turned to you and whispered, "Yes."
For you were the one who taught me how to love
