I woke up feeling much healthier. I looked to the left of me to see the guy. I knew his name, but I didn't like to call him that. He was still asleep. He must have come back with a blanket and pillow. He spent the whole night with me just to make sure I was well.

I glanced over again. He did seem like a good guy. I must have fallen asleep again because I don't remember anything happening after that.

I woke up for the second time to see find him leaning against the fence while reading. He noticed I woke up and closed his book.

"I saw what happened to you the other day. That mean lady screaming at you. She's harsh."

"Tell me about it." I said while sitting up to lean against the tree.

"Are you okay?" He said with care.

"Yes. I'm much better." I said. He keeps asking that same question. "Why do you care about me?" I said.

He smiled with pure joy. "I'm here to adopt you."

"Why would you go through all this trouble? Why wait a couple of days?" I asked confused.

"I wanted to get to know your personality. Understand how your life is now." He said in a wise tone.

"So what have you learned so far?" I asked with a bit of a laugh behind it.

"I can tell you care about these kids here. When that lady yelled at you, you made sure to protect the little ones. You're also very graceful because you didn't talk back to her. You accepted your punishment even though you didn't deserve one. That's a true heart." He said not taking my laughter into account. I sat there amazed about how much he had learned after just one day. He got up and dusted his pants off. He went inside the orphanage.

After an hour, he came back outside with some papers. I'm guessing he had filled out the paper work for my adoption. The keeper came out and unlocked the fence for me. She had an unhappy look on her face. The kids noticed my leaving and ran up to me.

"Please don't go! Please! Whose going to teach us? We love you!" Different things were being screamed and shouted. The little girl from the other day tugged on my shirt.

"Whose going to protect us?" The little girl softly whispered. I kissed her on her forehead.

"It's going to be all right. You take care of yourself. And help the others. Stay out of the keepers way. You should be adopted soon." I said to cheer her up. Her eyes began to water. I have everyone one last hug and left the orphanage. I never looked back.
