"It will take a lot of planning but we might be able to arrange a way for you to talk to her." I gasp at his words, is he serious, he'd do that for me?
"Spy, you have no idea how much this means to me..."
"Well, we have no time to waste, to the drawing board."
Now:
Spy has briefed the others on my situation. Some, I'm not gonna name any names, was less than pleased but surprisingly most of them accepted it. Those who were against it left the room and now we're looking over a map, trying to figure out ways to cause a meeting.
Goddamn it! I'm an engineer, a problem solver! Why can't I figure out a way to talk to a girl who might not kill me when we encounter! She might shoot me in the face upon seeing me, but we decided it was more probable she'd hear me out first.
The main obstacle is her team. They seem to be really protective over her, she's top of the medics heal list and that scout's always hanging around her. I can't help but sneer, he wouldn't know about romance if it kicked him in the nuts. But how to overcome that obstacle... I hate to say it but a gun probably isn't the answer here, she's really close to her team and less likely to talk with me if I pump 'em full of lead...
"Aha! Got it!" scout slammed his fist down on the table. He was surprisingly cool with me having a crush on (y/n), I'd think that he would be more upset considering he's hot eyes for anything with a 'big ass rack'. Childish and a dumb approach.
"Yo, what if we separate her from the group, spy disguises as her, her team "rescues her" and then they won't be suspicious! Engie, d'ya think you could make a doodad that closes a door and locks it if a password is imputed, we could use that old warehouse near the docks."
Wow, with a bit of polishing, that could be a pretty good plan.
"I'm fairly sure I can make somethin' to shut the door. And the warehouse is a good place... yeah, I think this might work!"
"separating 'er from 'er group is a challenge but I could see sat plan working..." Spy paced around the table for the hundredth time before giving a sharp nod and snapping his fingers.
"Scout, you lure (y/n) to the warehouse, heavy and sniper; keep her team away and distract them while I change and get into position. Engie, you will be in the warehouse waiting. Understood?" We all nodded and scout smirked cockily. Probably just proud of him being important for once.
"3 minutes until next battle." the administrator's voice rang out the speakers.
"Engineer, how quickly do ou think ou could create sat lock?" spy asked kinda worried.
I get where he's comin' from, if (y/n) get's killed this round she'd be pissed off for sure. The lock itself is a simple task but connecting it will be a massive pain in the ass.
"I can have it done in about 2 minutes if we're lucky but it'll take a while to install."
"Make now, we can iron out the creases later baldy!" scout jittered his leg up and down and stared me in the eyes. I stared back through my welding goggles and spy sighed.
"Everyone know what sey're doing? Zen get to it!"
Meanwhile, at the RED base
"(y/n), can we have talk?" scout approaches me looking kinda serious, it's odd.
"sure thing scoot" he didn't smile at his nickname like he usually does. What's going on, why're the others looking so seriously at me? I try for another joke; "Hey scoot, why so serious?" I do my best heath ledger joker voice and get a small smile this time.
"Listen, I'm sure you're freakin out, this buff hunk is askin ya if we can talk, but you're not in trouble. We just wanna know why our chick is so friendly with da BLU's. You're on our team, you're our (class)." Scout smirks a bit but keeps a kind look in his eye. That doesn't help what he just said though, and I'm going to verbally whoop his ass now.
"Hold up one second. Friendly with the BLU's? Just what are you implying? And I am not your chick. I'm free to come and go as I please, remember? Meaning I am a free spirit and do not need your approval to taunt the BLU's after winning a battle, hell I can go out there and quit this mercenary business all together. But I don't. And you know why? I like you guys, but don't push it. There's only so much bullshit a girl can take before needing to kick someone's ass scout."
"you mean scoot?"
"I know what I meant scout. Please don't accuse me of anything without knowing the full story. understood?"
"Yes ma' me."
"Glad we're on the same page scoot! Now run along we have a battle in five minutes. Morning spy." I smile and pat scout's cheek before turning to the invisible spy.
"Well sat was an interesting display." he uncloaks and gives me a half smile. "Scout getting told off is just as good as coffee in the morning." he laughs
"Well if you still want coffee I can get you some." I turn to go to the kitchen when spy grabs my shoulder.
"Sorry for the intrusion but may I ask a question?"
"You just did..."
"Then another. Why don't you kill them?" he stares at me and I return the tense gaze with a blank expression. Why I always win at poker.
"I guess for fun. There's something so thrilling when you have a gun to their head, you look them in the eyes and walk away. You know they're trying to rationalise the situation but all of the thoughts running wild in their head after experiencing that. The only certainty is that because of me, they're alive. They owe everything to a childish game I'm playing with their lives. It's thrilling really. That's why I spare them. Happy now?"
"... wow, that's intense..." he stares at me wide eyed at my admittedly sociopathic response. I do the rational thing.
"coffee?"
"Battle in a minute, and coffee is gross and bitter." I reprimand him and gather my weapons.
"Let's go kick some BLU ass!" I grin at my team and they grin back, all eager to get out there and be the first to spill blood.
"Three, two, one, go!"
