Theres a crying comeing from behind a little bed in the corner of the far right of the room which leads to a cabinet. Opening the door a little girl in a run down pink bonet dress is crying. She looks up at me in horror and screams in terror. Shes another ghoul that looks to be around 9 years old. She swings a kitchen knife at me jumping out the wardrobe.
"Stay back, both of you! Ill kill you both if you take another step!" The little ghoul girl waves the knife at us looking scared.I take a step back. Tom is at the door looking at her with an evil gaze as if hes gonna have her for dinner. "We are not gonna hurt you ok. Put down the knife and we can talk this out, ok?" i bend down on one knee. "What's your name? I promise I won't hurt you."
She ease's the knife. "Susie. Susie Arnold's." she says looking down at the floor. Her long blonde messy hair hangs in front of her face.
Now that Susie is standing up I see that she looks to be around 13.
"Ok Susie. You see my brother over there?" I point and she nods slightly. "He is ready to hurt you if you attack right? He doesnt want to hurt you but, he will if givin a good reason." I say reaching out for the knife. Tom leans in with his gaze on her. There's a dead silence. Birds chirping outside. Susie drops the knife on the floor with a thump. She meets my gaze with her dull blue eyes as she moves her hair to one side. Her face isnt as bad as what could possibly be her dad laying down stairs in the basement.
She jumps at me hugging my waist tightly as her head rests against my chest. "Thank you so much. Im just so scared of whats been happening to me." She crys out as tears roll down her cheeks.
Tom comes in to retrieve her wepon. His face is calm now. Then he goes to search the rest of the house.
I put my arms around her and there we stay for a little. "Im sorry you are going through this."
Susie lets go of me. "Im dyeing. My dad had just recently turned and I locked him in the basement. We've been sitting here for I don't kno how long. No one got hungry and there was no reason to go outside." She takes a seat on the floor.
I don't know what to say. She's dyeing? What does that mean, we all are. What do you mean you are dyeing? "How long has your dad been in the basement?" I ask putting my hand out for her to hold.
Theres a long silence. The room is like every part of the house but her room is sturdy. Theres ruined posters all over the walls with the same white paint peeling. She has a nightstand by the door. 5 tall book shelves with the books neatly aligned. A mirror with a cosmetics table in the far left corner. And here we sit. In the middle of the floor over an old circular carpet.
She takes my hand. Hers is dirty and cold. "A few days maybe. I lost count. He had just passed away when he was cleaning his arsenal in the basement. He locked it up and sat in his chair and there he stayed." Susie looks at the door for some reason. "Wheres your brother? Hes been gone for a while." She stands up, goes outside her door and then froze.
"Susie what's wrong?" I walk out in the hall with her.
There stands her dad with a shotgun aiming right at us. I pull her back before the first shot fired. The bullets tore through the wall and a ringing came.
"Tom!!! Tom!!! Help us!!!" I scream before closing the door. Locking it Susie starts hyperventilating. I lock it and pull her bed to the door as a sheild. Them I take her chair and prop it against the doorknob. Grab the dresser tip it over as a thicker layer as the bed. I panic looking around the room for a sharp object. I smash her mirror pull out a long thick shard of glass.
Then rip her blanket and make a handle. Her dad tries kicking in the door. It bulges and spilts a little in the middle. His foot goes through it the second time. BANG!!! The door handle shoots off and the chair explodes. I take cover with her as the door flies open.
The thump of his boots grow louder towards us. My heart sinks. I look up and he looks down at us. Before he can raise the gun to our heads I ram the glass through his jaw and pull it out to do it again. He hulls the gun and I jump backwards. Aims it directly at me and shoots again but misses. As he pumps it I go for the kill. Putting the thick shard through his throat he falls dead with a loud bang. I hope hes dead this time because it went through him. A puddle of blood begins to start from his neck.
Susie is rocking herself behind the bed and Tom appears at the door.
"I heard gunshots and ran back up the hill. What happened?" He asks panting.
"Mr. Arnold's got back up and tried to kill us with a 12 gauge shotgun." I tell him picking Susie up off the floor.
She looks at her dad lieing before her stairing forever ahead of him as the pool comes to an end. She cups her hands and pulls towards me trying not to look at the scene. I hold her as Tom takes the body outside through the balcony. Taking her down stairs I look at the door swinging open. Susie sits down and I get towels from their laundry room to clean up the mess.
This is our new home and its time to pick it up.
