The nightmare began with a dragon raid. But it wasn't just any raid. It was the night my mother died.

I watched as a dragon entered my house. I laid in a baby's crib. The Stormcutter slowly made its way to me.

It's head hovered over me as he brought up his wing to rock the crib.

Suddenly my mother entered. She grabbed a sword and startled the dragon. It's talon scratched my chin leaving a line of blood.

I cried as my mother stared I got the eyes of the dragon.

My dad stormed into the room trying to save my mother and me.

But that caused my mother to be carried off.

"STOICK!" She yelled.

"VALKA!" My dad called out. His voice changed to a whisper in the wind. "Valka."

My eyes snapped open as I sat up abruptly. I tried to catch my breath as I realized my face was stained with tears.

It was that time of year. The year my mother was taken by a dragon. The nightmares usually last throughout the month. I can never get away from them.

I looked over at Toothless who only stared back with worry.

"I'm okay, bud." I assured him. "It's that time of year."

Toothless knows what I mean. He's known for a few years. I never told the gang. My dad thought I grew out of them when I was fourteen.

Yeah, no. That didn't happen. They only got worse.

It was still dark out, probably around three in the morning. I didn't bother going back to sleep. I didn't need another nightmare.

I wondered over to the Clubhouse alone. Toothless decided to actually get some sleep. Apparently he was up all night looking out for me.

I sat around the table in deep thought. I must've been there for a few hours because the sun began to rise.

In the distance, I saw Astrid and Stormfly on their morning flight. I stood and leaned against the exterior of the Clubhouse.

I watched them twins prank Snotlout over by the arena. Hookfang joined in the laughter.

I smiled slightly, but it quickly faded.

I heard Fishlegs and Heather walked into the Clubhouse behind me.

"Hey, Hiccup!" Heather said cheerfully. "Sleep okay?"

"Yeah, just fine." I lied. I kept my eyes on the horizon.

"Where's Toothless?" Fishlegs asked taking a seat.

I turned around and joined them at the table. "He's asleep."

"Still?" Heather questioned.
