July 1988

My eyes never strayed far from the corner.

Light barely skimmed the alley's surface, leaving anyone to hide undectable in the shadows. From those shadows, one could spy on their targets, their people of interest. I was one of those people...a spy.

"Come on, come on."

I tried hard to pinpoint the man's location, eyes glued to every strange object and figure in the town square ahead of me. The only people I found were those who were drunk, dancing to the polite music or just passing through. None of them were-

There!

He appeared slowly at first- wearing a suit and tie as he'd just gotten out from one of his important meetings- and then emerged from the privately closed door. I clutched the rock in my hand tighter as I prepared my arm to launch the round object in the man's direction.

As the rock rolled into the man's foot across the mini square, I saw him turn. His dark eye scanned the entire place before settling on my hiding spot. It was my usual one, and he showed off a secretive smirk as he pulled away from the door. He made his way through the small crowd to me.

"You have come."

"I always do, don't I?"

The man grinned, setting the briefcase down to cup my cheeks. I leaned up and kissed him before he could- a competition we always had. The man drew my hips towards his own, causing my hands to wander upwards to his midnight-black hair.

"Have you anymore information?"

"We're going to attack in three days time," I played with his muscular shoulders and the man gently propped my body up against the wall. "We're starting stealthily and then moving in hot once you figure it out."

"Hmm," the man kissed my neck. "Doesn't sound like anything I can't handle. Anything else?"

"Woods is pissed you're alive after all this time. He's almost uncontrollable."

"He won't be a problem for much longer."

"We also will have reinforcements once you take us down. They'll come from the ground and the sky."

The man hummed again. "You're my perfect one."

"I try."

The man kissed me, his lips warm from the coffee he'd been drinking during his meeting. When he pulled away, his hand traveled to the rounding part of my stomach.

"Soon we will both have something much more to try for," he looked at my stomach, his lips curling upwards in smile.

"I'm ressigning next week," I admitted the secret I'd been keeping for the last three months.

The man hesitated, but only tucked a piece of my hair back afterwards. "I'm relieved."

"Are you?"

"I don't want you getting hurt," his scarred face was serious. "No one else needs to know about what's happening anyways."

"That's part of the reason why I'm leaving."

"Good," the man kissed my cheek and then my nose multiple times, making me giggle. "Now, I must leave my love."

"So soon?"

The man traced my cheek. "Yes, I'm sorry. I will meet you at the new house next week."

I knew going that long without seeing the man was going to kill me, but I only nodded. "Promise?"

"Of course," he kissed my lips once more before picking up his briefcase and heading back the way he'd come.

Before he reached the end of the alley entirely, the man shifted his gaze back over his shoulder once more. His eyes moved from mine to my stomach. Another smile lit up his face as he returned his gaze back to my shining eyes.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

Sorry it's so short, but there's a reason for it, I promise! :)

I'm glad a lot of you are loving this book. I know it might not make sense because the beginning is weird, but I fully intend on going back and editing/rewriting some of this story. I have been writing this story for over a year and I know for a FACT that I've grown as a writer since I've began this book so I apologize to newer readers that are probably going "WTH?"

Love you guys so much! :)
