The first semester of the school year was coming to an end and that meant Christmas was fast approaching. After a troubling few months which the whole town was still trying to recover from, the school was putting on a dance, which would include a performance from Josie and the Pussycats and the River Vixens.

Somehow Cheryl managed to be even more annoying and self obsessed than ever, claiming that 'all eyes would be on her to see if she's crumbling after the death of her brother'. She certainly had a unique way of grieving.

While everyone else was focused on putting on a great show Veronica had something else on her mind- her beautiful blonde best friend. Veronica was in love with Betty and had wanted to tell her so many times, but Betty was the best friend Veronica had ever had and she would never forgive herself if she ruined that.

For Veronica it had been a case of love at first sight. As soon as she first met Betty in Pops she was mesmerised by how beautiful she was. The problem was that she was pretty convinced she was straight and would never return Veronica's feelings.

After practice Betty said: "you wanna go get a milkshake and fries?" Veronica smiled and replied: "when have you ever known me to say no to spending time with you?" The brunette then thought to herself 'subtle V, real subtle'

The girls had a laugh about how on edge Cheryl was being and Veronica said: "I can't imagine what she's been going through the last few months but I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to tell her to shut up sometimes". Betty replied: "oh trust me, you're far from the only one.

Betty always loved moments like this because it allowed her to escape from all the madness at home, not to mention her ridiculously controlling parents. It was like Veronica was her safe place and when they were together Betty gained a confidence she didn't otherwise have.

While they were walking home Veronica asked: "so, which lucky guy has managed to bag you as their date for the dance?" Betty replied: "no-one. Actually I was going to ask you if you wanted to go with me. There's no-one I'd rather go with than my best friend".

Veronica couldn't believe what she was hearing. The girl she had been secretly in love with for months had just asked her to be her date for the dance. As friends, obviously, but she had been convinced she'd have to see Betty go with a guy.

After a few moments to process what Betty had just said, Veronica replied: "yes, of course I will". Betty smiled and said: "great, probably best if I pick you up from yours, you know what my mum is like". Alice had made up her mind about Veronica before even meeting her, not that Betty had taken any notice.

Two thoughts went through Veronica's mind after she got home. Firstly, how excited she was about the dance. Normally she dreaded things like this but she was going with Betty, who would no doubt look breathtaking dressed up.

The second was the fact she surely couldn't hide her feelings for much longer. She was amazed she had kept it a secret this long to be honest, Veronica wasn't exactly known for being subtle. She needed advice- and there was only one person she could turn to
