I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock. I reached over and felt for the snooze button. When I found it, I hit it and forced myself out of bed. I threw my hair in a messy bun and put on a minimal amount of makeup. I put my work clothes on and went to grab a breakfast bar with water.
"Bye mom," I said walking to the door, "if you're even here." I murmured under my breath closing the door.
-
I pulled into the parking lot at my work and saw Ethan in the car next to me. He was texting someone but I couldn't make out what he was typing. He looked angry. Then again, he always did. I got out of the car and walked around to the front of the building, I reached for the door only for it be opened from behind me. I turned to face Ethan. I smiled.
"Thanks." I said feeling the same nervous feeling he always gives me.
"Your welcome!" I heard him say as I turned to walk in. I grabbed an apron and tied it around my waist. I walked to the computer and clocked in. I then walked to get lemons out of the walk in cooler to cut. I was looking through the boxes when I heard the door shut. I looked to see Ethan of course.
"Oh, sorry," he said looking at me, his eyes looking brighter than usual, "sun dried tomatoes?" He asked with confusion in his voice. I pointed to where they were and finally saw the box of lemons on a high shelf. I reached for the box but it was too high and soon Ethan's hand reached above me and grabbed it.
"I guess you can just continue grabbing things for me." I laughed as he handed me the box.
"I don't mind." He said shyly or maybe afraid. I honesty don't understand him. He looked in my eyes, his pupils were very small. I didn't think they could get that small.
"Woah!" I said looking at them and he furrowed his eyebrows, "your pupils are so small." I finished.
"Oh, I um," he paused, "they do that when it's cold or when I'm underwater." He said unsure of himself. I nodded my head.
"Huh, wierd." I shrugged.
-
I was almost finished cutting lemons. Ethan and I were having a conversation while he rolled silverware when the knife slipped over the side of my finger and it started bleeding.
"Ah!" I hissed. I analyzed the cut and it started to bleed more. I brought my hand to my mouth and sucked the blood from it.
"I'll get you a band-aid!" Ethan practically yelled getting up and pushing his chair back walking away fast, as if needing to get away from me. Why does he lash out like that? He came back and handed me a band-aid not looking at my hand. He sat back down and began rolling silverware, his very prominent jaw clenched. Does blood make him queasy or something.
"Or something." I heard him say under his breath walking away.
"What the hell?" I said to myself. I put the lemons in an empty container and walked to the drink machine putting them down. Ethan came back there and just stared at me pushing me into the storage room.
"You're scared of me." He said walking until I was against the wall, his hands by my head on both sides of me.
"What?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Tell me, I scare you!" He yelled, hitting his hand on the wall beside me.
"You don't scare me!" I yelled back.
"Damnit, Ember!" He yelled pacing.
"What?" I asked.
"I know how you think of me!" He yelled.
"What do you mean?!" I asked him yelling in confusion.
"You have to stay away from me." He mumbled.
"Ethan, I-" I was cut off.
"You think my smile is cute and you like the way I dress so simple but it's attractive." He said.
"Well what if I told you that I don't feel the same way," he said moving the hair that rested on my shoulder to the side," what if I told you, that I want to kill you. I just want to hit this main artery just right and have all the blood inside you." He said running his hand over my neck, which I'm assuming is where the main artery was.
"What is wrong with you?" I questioned my heartbeat quickening.
"Scared yet?" He whispered only inches away from my face.
"No." I whispered back walking out leaving him standing there.OOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
