Cannon fire had ceased a while ago. The pirates had retired to their ship and captain, leaving behind those who stayed behind.

Elizabeth had gone into the silent mist which had now accumulated across the surface of the waters. Charlotte never looked away from where she had disappeared. She did not know how long she knelt there.

When she finally away she caught the ghostly reflection of her eyes staring up at her, both wide and frightful. The fear on her expression disgusted her.

"Coward" she mumbled to herself. It was her fault that her sister was gone, wasn't it? She could have stopped the pirates before they took her away. Could that be the reason why Elizabeth spoke of Parlay? To distract them?

Well, perhaps now it was too late to contemplate on why . She was gone and it had to be her fault. What's more, was at her last chance to save her, she hesitated

She was a coward. Elizabeth would not have thought twice. She would have jumped for her.

And she?

She did nothing.

She stopped and watched her row away. And now she was gone.

Charlotte felt her eyes sting at the truth of the matter, then, she felt for the post next to her, grabbed it and pulled herself up. What else was she to do?

Should she tell their father? Charlotte frowned. She knew he wouldn't allow her to join the journey to rescue Elizabeth. Though, that isn't far from the truth.

Charlotte decided it did not matter how dangerous it may be, she had to make up for her cowardice someway.

And with that, she threw her hood on and made her way back to the village.
