Sudenly we were teleported into an enormous city hall, full of people scattered around in an order as if we were all in a courtroom, six people sitting at front, the rest sitting together on benches. The hall was lighted with giant chandeliers, the walls colored white and golden, as if it was glistening. The benches were wooden and placed in the center of the room, where we now stood, ready to sit down anytime, there were guards next to the doors, nobody even noticed us, it almost seemed like we were invisible. But then, all of a sudden I heard a cry from the front. That must have been the reason for people not giving us one glance: There was a boy in our age standing in between the six people at front and the small crowd sitting on the benches, some of them even chatting as if the hurt posture and his crumpled up figure was something they saw every day.
Abruptly, I was pulled down to sit on the bench. My eyes were big and my breathing hitched as I looked beside me but was relieved when I saw Razziel there, his hand still clasping my shoulder. "Why don't you do something?" I mumbled. I pointed to somewhere at front where I knew the boy was still standing in pain.
"There's nothing I can do: It's the system that he resisted to. Besides, he already got away with any other, worse punishment." He hushed.
"Why? Did he do something? But look, he's just as old as we are!" I breathed. Razziel just shushed me and looked ahead and around then he turned around to face me again.
"If you're going to break the oath, you're going to be in the same position." He said. I ran my hands through my hair. Why would they...? Was taking away the talent that hurtful? And he was just a boy!
"What happens with his powers now? What happens with him?" I questioned. "His power, well his power is now almost out of him and it's going to be put in a sword, every time there's a war or battle those swords are used, with the power of traitors. What happens to him depends on himself. If he ever somehow finds his way back into Fairyland, let's just say it won't end well with him. He now can't tell anyone anything about this world because there's a certain spell put onto him and although the memories will remain with the pain, it will just be in his imagination. He will be left alone with his fantasies of this world." Razziel murmured. Two men appeared with black clothes and a posture of bodyguards and linked their arms under the arms of the guy who was now crumpled on the ground an unable to stand up on his own and carried him to the door. Midway through the boy turned around, searching the crowd which was still chattering and not paying attention to him.
His eyes scurried through the crowd, he was only a couple of feet away from me. Suddenly our eyes locked, maybe it was because I was the only one staring at him, maybe it was because of something else, I never got to know.
"Angel" he whispered. Though the room was filled with mumbles his voice reached me effortlessly. "Take care of you." Was the only thing I heard when the guards dragged him away through the doors. I stared at the spot he was just standing at with thousand unanswered questions swirling around in my mind. Slowly I turned around to Razziel who was glancing at me with a slightly strange look in his eyes. I opened my mouth then closed it again, my eyebrows somewhat knitted together in confusion.
"So, he also knew my name?" was the only question to break away from my lips. Razziel just shakily let out a breath and pressed his lips together. I looked up at his eyes again to see that he averted his eyes from me. I put my hand on his left shoulder to catch his eyes and attention again.
"You're making me suspicious" I stated and let go of him. I wanted to stand up, to go away without the oath. Why did I have those powers? My parents were normal people and everyone in my family too. Why did I get dragged in here? How did I get dragged in here? But then suddenly Razziel quickly reached out to grab my hand and prevent me from leaving. My heart was racing and my fingertips turned cold, blood was roaring in my ears as I peered up at him again.
"He helped me find you"
"In exchange of his powers?" I quizzed. He shook his head no. "In exchange of nothing. We were just in a team and after a time I heard that he fell in love with a girl and you can guess what happened next."
"He let her know who he was in reality?" I relaxed in my seat and leaned back though my heart was still racing and my breathing didn't turn to normal.
"If she would swear an oath would he be able to live with his powers?" I inquired.
He shook his head again. "She's not able to survive in this world, no human can survive in this world."
My shoulders hunched forward a bit. Although there were a lot of other questions I wanted to ask I felt the shifting atmosphere of the room, it was wrong to ask right now, maybe later but now right now when we were in the hall full of other people who could easily eavesdrop on our conversation.
The world which seemed so harmless at first was now beginning to get crueler in my eyes. I sighed and tried to forget about the boy.
"Angel Lee" the- I assumed- counselor announced. Shocked, I stared up, Razziel was already half pulling half pushing me with him to the front. 'Where was the rest of the crowd? Why didn't I see them go away?' I thought as I walked toward the lawyer's desk. There was a woman who brought me a red leather book and pointed to a section, told me to read it out aloud while shoving the book into my hands and going away again to return to her position next to the lawyer.
I was suddenly overwhelmed and staring to my side at Razziel. "What am I supposed to do?" I hissed.
He gesturedto the heavy book in my hands with his chin. I was supposed to read it out butif I did, there was no going back.
