Class went on, and the sun went higher. By lunch, my head was nearly dead. After eating on the green, I headed to gym. I went into the locker room and changed into my shorts and tee shirt. Going out into the gym, I grabbed a dodge ball and went to a vacant wall. After throwing it a few times, I was approached by Jay, Bridget and Mickey.

“Marcie, why are you playing by yourself? Don’t you have friends? Such a loser!” The two girls laughed at the joke.

“Well, then I guess we are all losers then. Want to join me in a game of Wall Ball, Marcie style?” Jay nodded and the other to, unwillingly agreed.

“I’ll started first, everyone else stand at the wall.” They stood on the wall, and the girls picked at their nails. I through the ball with brute force and nearly hit Mickey in the head.

“Hey! What the fuck!” She cursed. I shrugged.

“The goal of Marci style is to hit the people on the wall. Who wants to go next?” Mickey took the ball, and I went to the wall. She threw the ball at me, but I swiftly moved to my left. I stood right next to Jay and our arms touched.

“Sorry,” We both said at the same time. Seeing the expression on his face, I turned away, and continued to play.

After finishing dinner and homework, I walked back to the dorm. I changed into a hoodie and a pair of shorts. I put on my sneakers, and left a note to tell where I was. I walked out and went to the gym. Once inside, I went for the rock wall. I on a harness, and started to climb. Once at the top, I sat for a while. Looking down at the mostly dark gym, I felt taller.

After sitting there for 5 minutes, the gym doors opened. I looked for who came in. Jay and a girl, the one from 1st period, walked in. At first he was flirting with her, and then the got closer, and then start to kissing. They still didn’t break away after 5 minutes, and was getting grossed out.

“Hey, snoggers down there. Do me a favor and stop already.” I spoke, finally. After a second the two broke apart. The girl looked around, but after seeing no one, she leaned in for another kiss. But, Jay pushed her away.

“Someone seems to be watching us.” He then pointed to me.

“Up there.” He smirked, and I giggled. The rope fir the cable crossing started up here, so I sat in the woven seat and pushed myself off the platform.  Flew own the cable, and put out my legs to avoid going head first in the wall. I jumped down from my seat and walked over. I took out my phone from my pocket and held it up.

“If you want to make out without getting caught, check around you first.” She blushed in embarrassment and ran for the doors. Once the doors had fully closed behind her, Jay clapped.

“Good job, brave act.” He smirked at me. I cracked a smile and put away the phone.

“You should be thankful. Now you don’t have to deal with a clingy girl in the morning.” He cracked a smile, a real smile.

“Yes, you did. And, your lying skills are very good, I must say myself.” I smiled.

“Yep, friend.” I put out my hand and he shook it. It’s funny how it works. By day, Jay and I through rude comments back and forth. By night, we chat like any pair of besties.

I climbed to the top of the rock wall. After discovering it empty during gym, I found myself coming back and enjoying the high view. The gym doors opened and in came Jay and another girl. After a while they started to kiss. Unable to watch anymore, I got onto the cable crossing seat, and flew myself down. Having never done it, I screamed, I turned just in time and my side hit the wall instead of my face. I fell to the floor. The girl ran away. Jay walked over concern covered his face.

“Are you alright?” He picked me up and lay me on the bedded floor under the climbing net. He left for a minute and came rushing back. He put some cold drinks to my side.

After a while, the cold numbed my side. I finally sat up, and we split the drinks. After talking for a while, I stood up. Jay reached for my hand.

“I know we just met, and you might think of me as your friend, but during school hours, please, don’t tell anyone.” I nodded. Being the understanding person I was, I didn’t question him.

-Present

We climbed the wall and sat at the top.

“You know, I wish I could talk to you more.” I looked at him. He leaned his head on my shoulder and closed his eyes.

“We are talking now, you know.” He chuckled.

“Yeah, but I mean in the summer.” I frowned and nodded.

“There is always the internet?” I said to him, and he nodded.

We climbed down from the wall, and walked to the doors.

“When do you want to meet again?” He turned to me. I shrugged.

“Tell me when you need your next saving.” He smiled and pulled me in for a hug.

“You go first. I’ll go out after you.” I nodded and pushed open the doors.

Once in bed, I replayed the moments where the sadness in his face showed the most about summer. What were we going to do?
