"So.... In three months, I get my answer. Why?", Eric asked.
"Cause I barely know you and although I really, really like you and care for you deeply. I need to know it's not just because of you saving me that day," Kaycee admitted as she stabbed her food.
They sat down to dinner after Kaycee let Eric slip the ring onto her finger with a promise to wait for her true answer. It just gave her a reminder of what she could have if she chose to say yes.
"Will you still live in the house with me? Even if you tell me no, I'll still want you to be near until you get back on your feet."
"My home's gone so...", Kaycee shoved a piece of chicken into her mouth to keep from answering. "I could stay with you but in your guest room for now. I don't want to get to comfortable because I will look for a job and try to pay my own way for everything."
"Why can't I still spoil you while you work?"
Kaycee smiled despite the ache in her chest. He would willingly give her anything she desired but she had lived most of her life fending for herself. And it was kind of hard just trusting that a stranger would give her everything that she desired in the world.
"It's flattering that you want to give me all of this and more, but I feel like I should at least bring something more to the table," Kaycee grabbed Eric's hand and squeezed it to show him that she wasn't saying no but that she needed to be independent.
Everything she has was always taken from her.
Her mom, her home, and she couldn't risk this new situation burning up in flames.
"I understand," Eric truly did. He had everything but he liked working for the things that people told him he'd never achieve. Not just to prove them wrong but to prove to himself that hard work gets you a lot of places in life. "But I think you should stay in the master bedroom and I'll move to the guest one."
"It's your house."
"That reminds me...."
"What?"
He pulled a paper from out of his suit jacket and placed it on the table. A big red circle were around to beautifully structured houses. One said Paris and the other said Southampton. The numbers were huge on them and that's what made Kaycee gasp in shock.
"My mom always told me home is where ever you make it. If you love them, we can buy them but if not.... I have my real estate agent on standby for more homes."
"You... want... me.... to... pick.... a house," Kaycee literally was in tears and had begun to hyperventilate as she looked at the beautiful homes.
Eric handed her a pen.
"They can both be our new homes if you sign on the dotted line."
"I want to..."
