'Whoa! Look at that downpour out there... You sure you don't want a ride home, Kaycee?' Donna asked as she pulled on her overcoat and grabbed the large purple umbrella from her locker. Kadence pulled on her recently acquired rain boots and jacket. She hadn't told Donna about her situation so she just shook her head. 'I'll be fine, Donna. My house isn't that far.' Kaycee lied through her teeth as she tucked her dark brown hair into the hood. The older woman gave her a concerned look but didn't push further on the subject.

The doors were shut and locked with the lights off. Donna waved goodbye as Kaycee walked towards the back alley of the diner. She needed to create the illusion of going to a home for Donna to believe her. 'When the sun shine, we'll shine together...' Kaycee sang as she splashed in puddles doing a cute little dance. She stopped when she heard a muffled groan. 'What the hell? ' Kaycee looked around in the watery darkness before spotting a man leaning over with two men standing over him. She was afraid for her life but she wasn't about to let an innocent person get mugged or beaten or both. A large wooden stick was lying on the ground against the dumpster. Kaycee picked it up and huffed at the heaviness before charging the strange men. 'Leave him alone!' She yelled as she hit the first one on the back with a professional baseball player swing and got ready to hit the second. 'Aargh! You crazy bitch!' The first one hissed loudly as he fell to the ground clutching his back and the second one began to flee. She rushed to the man's side who was bloody in the face and appeared unconcious.

'Hey mister, are you alive?' Kaycee tapped his cheek before watching him groan softly. She was frightened at how he seemed to be wavering like in the movies. 'What- Who are you?' He asked groggily as he held his bloody face. Kaycee looked around to see if there was anyone to help them. She saw no one so she started to worry. 'I'm just a waitress, but you really need help.' Kaycee bit her bottom lip as she worried about how she was supposeed to help this man when she had no cell phone, no car, and no home to use. 'My emergency cell phone is on my lower ankle in a carrier. Can you call someone for help?' The man seemed to gain concious long enough to give helpful information to Kadence who had begun to whimper in worry. She rushed to do his bidding as he bled from his busted lip and bloody nose. 'Okay, got it. Yes, this is an emergency. We are at 5th and Auburn St. near Cup of Sunshine in a back alley. Yes, there is a man wounded from a mugging. No, I don't know his name... My name is Kadence Chapman, um, I'm just a waitress. Please just hurry.' Kaycee's hair was falling into her face from the hood and water dripped on the ends. She tucked it behind her ear as she lifted the man into her lap as if he was a child to cradle. 'Stay with me, Mister. Please, please don't die.' Kadence whispered as silent tears mixed with the fat drops of rain coating her pale olive skin. The man just lie there with his eyes closed like he was sleeping and head turned to the sky as if he was praying to the stars.

'Is he okay? Are you certain he doesn't need surgery? I need to see him, if possible.' Kaycee rambled softly as she rushed to the stranger's doctor with worry and concern all over her rain drenched face. The doctor stared at her with pity before opening his charts. 'Yes, he's okay. Definitely, no surgery. You may see him once he regains conciousness. The detectives are going to ask you some questions when they arrive so please be ready.' He patted her shoulder comfortingly before giving a soft smile and leaving.
