The next couple of days were filled with awkward meetings and subtle touches from Eric. Kaycee tried to avoid him, ignored his flowers but kept the messages he sent with them, and kept a distance from his assistant who kept trying to convince her to come work at his company.
She decided to get a simple job as a waitress, but a side job as a secretary for a lawyer.
"Do you have any law experience?"
"No, I barely made it out of high school. But I am a fast learner. I am never late, always early, and I move quickly."
"You got it. Only because I have made all of my other secretaries cry within minutes and people have started to call me out on my jerk behavior. So if I go a little psycho please don't start crying. I'll even give you a bonus."
"Wow! That's so amazing! Thank you, ma'am," Kaycee shook his hand and clapped her hands in glee. Not only was she getting bonus but she was making nearly five dollars more than her job as a waitress.
She went home with her head high and a smile on her face.
"I can imagine you had a nice day," Jane, the maid, spoke as she walked through the door with her heels in hand. She smiled at the older woman and walked into the kitchen to grab something to eat and drink.
"I heard the good news," the voice of her 'fiancé' made Kaycee roll her eyes as she lathered peanut butter onto her slices of bread and add several banana slices to each one. "Should I pull out the champagne?", his hand held a bottle of pink champagne.
"No."
"Just one glass?"
"I'm good. Are you still going away on business in two days?"
"How did you-"
"I heard the good news yesterday," Kaycee spoke with a mouthful of sarcasm and rolled her eyes as she took a big bite of her sandwich.
"It was supposed to be a secret. I wanted to keep it a surprise until tomorrow when we went to dinner."
"And when were you going to tell me I was going to dinner?", she was clearly starting to get upset. Kaycee just didn't want to be obligated to do things just because. "Are you going to ask me properly?"
Eric looked amused at the look on Kaycee's face, her hand on her hip, and the fact that he knew something she didn't.
"I couldn't be late for my meeting this morning because my mother was there and I decided to send you three dozen roses up to your room. I added the message inside along with a surprise gift. Did you get them?"
Kaycee looked shocked and then sheepish as she remembered the pretty pink, yellow, and red roses that she woke up to find. Only thing was....
She was in a rush and didn't pay them any mind.
"I forgot. I was also in a rush," she blushed.
"How about we eat dinner tomorrow night but that morning we spend the entire day together?", Eric lifted a brow in wait of her answer.
She contemplated the idea. She didn't have to work until Monday so why not?
"And what would we do, Mr. Davidson?"
-
In the morning, Kaycee took a shower, shaved, and slicked her long hair into a ponytail. She decided on wearing an off the shoulder white sun dress, a thick red choker, and a pair of red pumps. Her make up was done simply with red lips, soft pink blush, and a romantic style eye.
"You look amazing, Miss."
"Thanks, Lola."
"I think you and Mr. Davidson are an amazing match. He never smiles the way he does now until he met you. I always thought it was because that leech of a girlfriend had finally decided to let him go."
"She was that bad..."
Kaycee had given her the benefit of the doubt even as the girl had been rude and tried to steal Eric away from her.
Well... yeah.
"I should go. He probably is waiting for me."
Lola nodded and opened the door for her before getting back to work cleaning the woman's bedroom.
The moment Kaycee walked down the stairs, she glanced around in search for Eric but he wasn't inside the house. She went outside and in the front of the house a red Ferrari with the top down. Standing in front of it stood Eric wearing a white v neck, jeans, and a pair of sneakers. Something completely unlike the fully dressed formal wearing Eric she had gotten to see these couple of weeks.
"You look like trouble," Kaycee teased as she walked up to her handsome friend.
He wrapped his arms around her waist and smiled that charming smile of his. She let him hold her now but stepped back once his eyes filled with that feeling that made her heart flutter.
"You look beautiful, Kadence."
He opened her car door and slid into the driver seat as she buckled up and turned the radio on. The sounds of the radio took her attention away from the blush on her face and the feelings in her stomach as Eric let his hand rest on her thigh while he waited for her to look at him. When she finally did, he leaned over and whispered in her ear.
She smiled at the sweet words and kissed his cheek.
