"We don't have much time." Nate says to the receptionist. "We are running in circles at this point. Come with me."
"Okay." She replies, coming around to the door to the waiting room where she meets Nate.
Nate suddenly pulls out a knife and slits the receptionist's throat, causing her blood to spray onto the floor as her body drops to the floor.
"Thanks for your help." He smiles as he disappears in thin air and her body disappears with him.
He disappears from earth and he suddenly finds himself in an eerie middle zone, between earth and the afterlife.
In the approaching fog, a dark figure is barely made out.
A deep dark voice begins to croak, "Good job."
Nate plasters a smile of malice across his face.
TWO MONTHS EARLIER
"You're crazy." Becca says. "I don't know how you expected me to believe that your mother was just here. This is insane. Not to mention this afterlife crap. This serial killer ghost nonsense."
"Becca, please. Listen to me." Nate pleads. "We need to stop this man. Don't you think?"
"What I think is that you're going insane." Becca retorts. "That is a bunch of fiction nonsense."
Nate has been going on and off about this subject for days, trying to convince her of what he had just experienced. They have been dropping the subject and bringing it back up. Nate is tired of tiptoeing about this particular topic that means a lot to him. He is trying yet again to convince her.
"My mother was here! I'm trying to tell you that." Nate begs her to believe him. "Why would I lie to you, Becca?"
"Perhaps you aren't." Becca suggests. "Perhaps you have some ridiculous combination of mental disorders, I don't know, psychosis or schizophrenia or some shit, and you're losing you're mind!"
"Becca!" Nate shouts.
"Either way," Becca shouts back, "I'm sick of putting up with this bullshit nonsense."
Becca hesitates to continue.
Nate pauses, afraid of where she seems to be going with this.
Becca finally speaks up, "I'm breaking up with you."
