"Yes! Yes!!!" The surgeon says.
Derrick, the surgeon, is experimenting on a dead man, Jonathan Gordon. He is using his experiment to resurrect the dead, which he is doing illegally at his place of work during after hours.
His experiment begins to work as the man wakes up. He looks around screaming, with his eyes bloodshot.
"Yes!!!" Derrick smiles at his work.
Suddenly, his experiment turns on him as Jonathan, half conscious, leans up and starts to choke Derrick.
Derrick makes a choking sound, trying to escape from his grasp. Out of the blue, the choking stops and Jonathan falls back to the table, seemingly asleep. Jonathan feels like pulse and there is no pulse.
"No!!" Derrick says, beginning to do CPR.
He eventually realizes he is dead again and Derrick puts his head in his hands.
"I was so close." He cries. "So close."
SIX MONTHS LATER
"Becca?!"
"Hey, Nate." Becca smiles, as Nate turns around and hugs her. "I heard everything. Who knew all it took was compassion. You were always great at that."
"Thank you." Nate says, as he cries a little. "Well, I tried to avoid dying and was unsuccessful but at least when I go to the afterlife I will see my mother again. We were all unsuccessful."
"Yeah, but like you said at least you have your mom." She smiles. "And I will have my family. Not just that either."
"What do you mean?" Nate asks.
"I won't just have my family." She says. "I'll have you...maybe...but you'll have me. You will always have me. I know, given our history, you will probably never forgive me but you will always have me. I will always be here for you. I know I wasn't always before, but this is a promise. I'm your ally here."
Nate smiles. "Ever since everything, actually, I was considering asking you again."
"Really?" She asks. "I would consider saying yes. Actually considering that question, I would say yes."
"I love you." Nate says.
"I love you too." Becca says back.
Nate and Becca then kiss passionately. A long awaited kiss, now that their tension has finally been released and is no more.
"Okay, okay." Jonathan says, interrupting their kiss and pushing them apart. "Are you ready to go to the afterlife?"
"Yeah." They say simultaneously, nodding at the same time.
"Alright then." Jonathan smiles. "Here is the fun part...so in order to go to the afterlife. You have to kill yourself in the middle zone so you can be sent there."
"Do you have a gun?" Nate asks sarcastically.
"Yes. Several actually." Jonathan replies.
"I want one too." Becca says, holding her hand out.
He hands both of them a gun and they take it, looking at it for a second.
"This will be easy for me." Jonathan says, immediately shooting himself.
Nate and Becca scream from being startled so suddenly. They look at each other shocked about it, even though they had to expect that to happen soon enough.
"Okay. This is harder than I thought it would be." Nate says, clutching the gun in his hand.
"Yeah, it is." Becca agrees. "I mean, it's so screwed up."
"Let's do it at the same time, or shoot each other." Nate suggests.
"It'll make it interesting." Becca says. "Wait a second, let's leave a note for my family on the guns about going to the afterlife. They will find the guns."
"Okay." Nate says. "I have a piece of paper in my wallet."
"And I have a small pen in my hair." Becca laughs.
Nate laughs as well, "You're so crazy, how you love to style your hair in a bun with a pen."
They leave the note and pick up where they left off.
"This is so weird." They laugh.
"Are you ready?" Nate asks.
"Ready as I'll ever be." Becca replies.
"You sure?" Nate asks.
"I'm sure." Becca answers.
"Okay." Nate says. "3..."
"2..." Becca continues for him.
Nate ends their short countdown, "...1."
BOOM.
The shots go off at the same time. They shot each other in the head and are off to the afterlife. Together. Finally, they are off to a fresh start and have a chance at a happy life.
