Chapter 11 The Surprise

Aubrey guides me out of the car but Alex leads me to what seems like the backyard but I am not sure since she couldn't help but spin me in circles to make me dizzy. My mom is there and I ask, "Mom what is happening. Can I trust Alex?" She replies, "Yes. Can't you and Alex just get along for once." Alex and I giggle. I can't see anything so I depend on my hearing. I can hear Aubrey go by Cody and they say hello to each other. I can hear the slight breeze of the wind against the trees. I can hear what seems to be paper or something against the wind. I can hear someone else whispering to my mom on the left of me but I don't recognize their voice. 

My mom asks someone if they are ready but I don't hear someone reply to hear. I can feel the intensity in the air rise. My mom then asks me if I am ready even though I have no idea what I am supposed to be ready for. I just say, "Yea I guess I am ready." My mom then tells Alex to take off my blindfold. She starts to take it off but I can't see anything yet and she's pulling my hair too so I say with sass, "I can do it myself." I rip the blindfold off and my jaw drops. 

I can't believe what I see. There are red, yellow, pink, blue, and purple balloons on both sides of the back porch. There is a big banner draped on the railings of the porch. There is also some red and yellow streamers on the porch and on the steps. The balloons are blowing in the wind and there is a boy but not just any boy standing in the middle of the porch. The boy is Ethan. I didn't know what to do. I am standing there for a minute and I can see Ethan starts to switch his weight from one leg to another. I shake my head and start walking to the porch, then it turns into a run. I skip a step on the way up the porch and Ethan comes over and we hug. I am quite short for my age so Ethan and I are about the same height. 

It is actually quite awkward with everyone watching us. He asks me what my answer is. I look at him with a puzzled look and ask, "Answer to what?" He awkwardly says, "Did you not read the banner?" I forgot to read the banner. I immediately say, "I was so caught up in the surprise of you that I didn't read the banner." I go down the steps and Ethan follows me. I read the banner. It states in big bold black letters, Will you be my girlfriend Callie? I look at him and he looks at me.  He gives me a look that says, what is your answer. I say yes and we hug again while everyone claps. I felt my face get red. Aubrey runs up to me a gives me a hug and yells, "Callie's got a boyfriend!" in a mocking annoying type of voice. My face gets even redder. 

Everyone comes up to us and Cody looks at me and I look at him and it feels weird. I quickly glance away. I shake hands with Ethan's mom and we greet each other. I ask my mom how long she knew about this. She says, "A week or two." with a smile. I then look at Ethan and ask him, "Why didn't you tell me, we were even talking earlier?" He shrugs his shoulders and says, "I wanted it to be a surprise." We smile at each other. My mom says, "Why don't you give Ethan a tour of the farm." Everyone goes their separate directions away from us. Aubrey and Cody go to the barn. Everyone else goes into the house and I start to give the tour to Ethan.
