One Year Later
I was pushing my trolley through King's Cross station, Lily at my heel, casting a look of longing at my trunk and various spell books. "You can go next year" said mum, seeing the look on her face. They looked scarily similar stood next to each other, both with flaming red hair and kind faces, but the only difference was in their eyes: Lily's were a familiar piercing green, and mum's were a milky brown. Dad was up ahead with James and we all stopped at the wall between platforms nine and ten, leant on the wall as if in conversation, and casually fell through to platform 9 3/4.
Me and Rose were walking through along the train, peering through at compartments full of students and looking for one to join. Rose kept yammering on about finding the right one to sit in : "Our future best friends could be there!" I slid open the glass door to a compartment thats only occupant seemed to be a first year with a pallid face and bleach blonde hair. I asked if we could come in and sit down and he looked quite happy to have some company as he let us in. He was already in his new Hogwarts robes. "I'm Scorpius Malfoy", he told us. I sat down but Rose was stood in the doorway, looking at me with the air of an adult telling off a child. She stalked off and went to find another compartment. I introduced myself and we sat in an awkward silence for a while - trying to look interested as we looked out of the window showing blurred trees or pretended to search for an object in our trunk. After a while the trolley witch came to our door and Scorpius's face lit up. He brought back an armful of everything from Fizzing Whizzbees to Drooble's Best Blowing Gum. I stayed seated as I thought it best not to spend all my money on one go, but Scorpius offered me a chocolate frog and I took it: mum never let me have sweets. They seemed to make Scorpius more excited, he launched into a conversation about all his favourite witches and wizards and told me he was especially excited for history of magic (which, in my opinion, sounded like the most boring subject). I changed into my robes and eventually the train ground to a halt at the station.
In the Great Hall, we stood in pairs, facing the sorting hat. "I expect I'm in slytherin, like my parents" Scorpius told me. That was exactly what I feared I would be in.
When it was my turn, I pulled the hat on over my head and was suddenly aware that my hands were clammy and beads of sweat were slowly trickling down my forehead. "Slytherin!" the hat shrieked, causing a silence in the hall. I was quite shocked as I walked over to the Slytherin table. "He's not like his father at all!" squeaked another first year. James avoided my gaze as I looked over at the opposite table.
