Chapter 14
Luca was whistling a soft tune while taking a quick shower. It was not his wont to go down without one. But waking up with a pillow rather than Kayla's warm body in his arms made him jumped up and ran down the stairs looking for her.
Finding her with Demetrius had set his day off at a bad start. Thanks to his mama, he was able to salvage it.
Although Kayla was at her usual charming self, Demetrius was another matter. He saw a flicker of recognition in his darn eyes. A recognition for what, he was not sure of. All he knew was that he had to stir him away from her at all cost.
They used to be close when they were young. He's older by 2 years and Demetrius always looked up to him then. They were inseparable. He cannot remember when and how but they just slowly drifted apart. He associated himself with people outside of their common group of friends and they started to argue on things they used to agree.
He, however, started to disassociate himself from Demetrius when the latter started dating and getting into relationships with women Luca was showing interest with. Then discarded them like clothing the moment Luca lost interest in them.
Now, he was doing the same thing to Kayla. And he'll be damned if he will let him do that again. Of all the women that he was interested with, only Kayla matters. No one, and he meant - no one will take her away from him.
He went down the stairs taking 2 steps at a time, excited to be with her and Yuri the entire day and of course for tomorrow as well. He had all the activities planned out but he will just go with what those 2 wanted. The horseback riding lesson was not part of his plans for this weekend because he didn't want his son to feel left out. But if that's what Kayla wanted, then that's what they will do.
He heard merry laughter and followed the sound that led him to the morning room. Kayla was on the floor with Yuri on her lap looking up to Demetrius who's making funny faces at them. The sight was so intimately happy that he wanted to kill him right there and then. This is his family for Pete's sake. He should be the one in that bastard's feet.
He growled low in his throat and tried so darn hard to calm himself. It was the presence of his mama sitting happily at one of the couches that made him got hold of his emotions. She wouldn't let Demetrius try anything with her knowing how his son felt for her, would she?
He cleared his throat loud enough for the people downstairs to hear and went directly to Kayla. He took Yuri and held out his hand to her helping her to stand. He embraced her with Yuri in his arms making him squirmed and he kissed both of them to the boy's delight. He turned and faced Demetrius but only caught sight of his broad back before he completely disappeared from the door.
So, he gracefully bowed out, huh? Good! Gracefully bowed out? Like hell! More like he was off somewhere to make game plan B. That's the Demetrius he knew.
He gently led her to the couch across his mama and sat her down. "Stay with mommy, buddy, okay? Will just need a few minutes."
"Okay," the boy readily agreed.
"Luca," Kayla said holding his hand and looking at him worriedly. Boy, the intensity of those gorgeous eyes made him want to sit down and just imbibed on her. But fight it, he did. He had to make that bastard stop.
"I'll just be a minute. Don't worry." He smiled at her reassuringly and kissed the tip of her nose before walking out of the door.
He caught up with him before Demetrius disappeared down the hallway. "Demetrius! I need to talk to you. In my office."
He turned and walked to the opposite end of the hallway towards his office without looking back expecting him to follow.
Demetrius closed the door and faced him. He just smirked and raised his brows waiting for him to speak. They were standing in the middle of the room.
