Chapter 9
Kayla slowly woke up to the sound of chirping birds outside the bedroom windows. She smiled. Her body clock would always wake her up at 6:00 in the morning. It's only 4:00 a.m. based on the bedside clock. She sighed. It will take time to adjust to this time difference.
The birds were now pecking on the window sill and she smiled. "What a beautiful sight," she said thinking allowed.
A soft chuckle behind her made her instantly sat up. "What are you doing here?" She gasped. "Don't you have your own room? Or, am I in the wrong room?"
"Good morning, baby," he greeted unperturbed by her outburst. "You're more beautiful a sight than the chirping birds, that's for sure. Slept well?"
She narrowed her eyes at him. "Don't change the topic and answer me, Mr. Conti."
"Always impatient for answers," he said smirking. He stood up and stretched. She gulped. He was shirtless and wearing only a boxer shorts. Her hands are suddenly itching to touch that rippling muscles on his chest and biceps. "This is our room, baby," he said facing her.
"I think I'm having a bad case of jet lag. Did you just say this is OUR room?" She mentally shook herself to erase that unwanted thoughts and concentrate on what he was saying.
"You heard right," he said seriously sitting at the foot of the bed facing her. And so the battle royal has commenced, he mused.
"Why are we sleeping in the same room? Is there scarcity of room in this castle?" She asked incredulously.
He laughed at that. "No, of course not!" She answered her own question.
"Baby, there are more than 30 rooms in this house or even more. You can count them later for accuracy when I give you the tour that I promised last night."
"Then why are we sharing a room, for Pete's sake?" She asked again.
"You're my fiancée," at the raised of her brow, "or at least people believed you to be," he corrected. It would not be believable if we don't share a room. It would raise questions. Besides, Yuri will wonder why. Naturally, he will assume you are sleeping with me. Remember that morning when he ran into my room looking for you?"
She continued staring at him. "Let's not make a big deal out of this, okay? I promised, I will not do anything you don't approve."
"Oh, really?" She challenged with a raised brow. "Yes."
"You could have convinced me. I don't approve of this arrangement for starters."
"I know you don't. But I wasn't referring to the sleeping arrangement. It is not negotiable, baby. Sorry. When it comes to Yuri and me, it is not negotiable."
"You?" Oh, darn that quick mind of hers. "I meant -- when it comes to what I believe is good for Yuri," he corrected.
"I could have sworn that's not what you meant. But, whatever. Luca, please. This is very unseemly to say the least."
"What do you mean unseemly? You're my fiancée and we're at the privacy of our home. Living in separate quarters is what would appear unseemly."
Silence ensued as both of them were assessing each other's reactions and possible thoughts.
"Baby, you trust me, right? I promised I will never do anything without your consent or anything that would make you feel uncomfortable at the very least."
"Then stop hugging and kissing me," she retorted.
"Except those," he quickly added. She rolled her eyes. "Sorry if my hugging and kissing you made you uncomfortable. But those are not negotiable too. Ask something else," he smirked.
