Chapter 13

Kayla woke up to the sound of chirping birds. Since her first morning in Greece, the birds seemed to take over the function of her alarm clock, chirping and pecking on the glass windows near her side of the bed. It was a good feeling which somehow reduced her homesickness.

She missed her own place, the adrenalin to get through busy days, going out with friends and most of all, she missed Misty so much. Although they made a point of calling each other at least twice a week, she still missed her presence. She sighed and moved to get up but her movement was hampered by a bond of arms around her waist.

She slowly untangled Luca's arms and got off the bed. She looked down and studied him. He was sleeping peacefully. He looked less scary, probably because his eyes were closed. Those eyes are just so expressive you can tell when he's angry, amused or just being the arrogant man that he was.

He could make you squirm, stammer, lose your train of thoughts, or stumble down the floor with a single look. Sometimes she feels like he was undressing her with his eyes which made her sweat all the way down to her toes.

He made her feel things that were alien to her. After her relationship of 3 years had ended, she had dated a few of the illegible men Misty and her boyfriend have pushed her way but none of them made her feel the things that Luca did. Just hearing his voice makes her body tingles all over, like a current of electricity slowly spreading through her veins.

She was really in danger of falling head over heels with this Greek god. She had to control her emotions or she will end up hurting herself and that's more than she bargained for when she accepted this post. Her only concern then was to get away - far, far away from the cause of her heartaches.

Although she projected an appearance of somebody who had finally moved on, she knew deep inside she still resented the fact that her ex-boyfriend had made a fool of herself. It had been a year, but the pain was still there, deeply hidden behind the facade that she was sporting since then.

But since knowing Luca, she can barely feel it's there anymore. All her senses were attuned to his very presence. He made her feel important and precious. Yuri, on the other hand, made her feel needed and useful. But at the same time, made her longed for a child of her own. Luca's home feels like her own and his parents and Yuri played a big part on that. They have accepted her with open arms which was more than she could ever asked for. But this is an employment, not a regular relationship and she has to keep reminding herself of that fact.

So she have decided to finally let go of the past and open herself to the possibilities that her stay in Greece may bring.

She went to the bathroom to get ready for the day. Demetrius promised her yesterday to give her a riding lesson. Luca owned a considerable number of horses that were kept in the barn at the other side of the lake. She can't believe how much lands he owned. She can't even see the fence that indicates the boundary of his lands. And this is just one of his properties.

Speaking of Demetrius...he was another case. She was certain he was as arrogant as Luca at first meeting but he proved to be somewhat tolerable. He can be sweet and attentive but scary at the same time. Although he laughed out loud without reservations at something she or Yuri said and done, there's just something in him which she can't put a finger into. She was determined to know what it was. And what better way to do it than to spend more time in his company?

Luca made himself scarce the past weeks. He come and go without her knowing it. The only indication that he still comes home every night was the dent on the pillow and the messy sheets on his side of the bed.

His absence made her feel deprived of his intoxicating presence. But it had also given her time to regroup her emotions and stop acting like a fool whenever he's around. That's where Demetrius came in handy.
