Jack, David, Les, and I walk over to an area in town where they are holding a fight. Jackpot! There's always lots of people around here and willing to buy papes.
David tries, and starts to yell. "Extra, extra, trolley strike drags on!"
"Extra, extra! Ellis island in big flames, big confragration!" Jack screams.
"Wait, wheres that story?" David asks confused.
"Thousands flee in panic!" I yell. A man hands me a penny and I hand him a pape. "Thank you, much obliged."
Jack and I continue to yell, "Terrible inferno! Extra, extra!"
Jack then pulls Les aside, "Hey, did ya do what I told ya?"
Les nods, and begins to fake cough, "Buy me last pape mista?"
"Heartbreakin, go get 'em."
"Our father told us not to lie." David says.
"Yeah, well ours told us not to starve. So we both got an education." I tell David.
"Your just making things up, like those headlines." David continues to argue with us.
"We's don't do nothin' the guys who write this stuff don't do. It ain't lying, it's just improving the truth a little." Jack tells David. We all sit down for a minute to watch the fight continue. Les then comes over to us.
"That guy gave me a quarter! Quick, gimme another pape!"
"Hold it." David grabs him. "You smell like beer."
"Well that's how I made the quarter. Guy bet I wouldn't drink some." Les tells us.
Jack and I chuckle. "Hey, no drinkin on the job, bad for business." I say. "What if someone called a cop or somethin?"
David then points out a guy in the crowd making his way over to us. "Hey, is that guy a friend of yours?" Jack and I stand up to find Mr. Synder.
"Beat it!" I say, running away.
"It's the bulls!" Jack gabs David's arm and drags him out of the crowded area.
"All this for drinkin a beer?" I hear Les say. This makes me laugh as we spirit from Synder and the bulls.
We make our way through an alley way and onto a crowded street. We dodge people and horses as we just keep running. We hear the whistle from the bulls and their still behind us.
"This way!" I shout, as I run into a random building off the streets. Our feet pound up the stairs as we race to the top.
"He's right behind us, he's right behind us!" Jack yells.
We reach the top and bust through the door. We then go to jump off the ledge, which was only a 5 foot drop. David and Les stop, confused, then realize what we did. They run next to us and we hide below the wall. Synder bursts through the door to see nothing on the roof top.
"Sullivan! Wait till I get you back to the refuge!" Synder yells. Jack and I chuckle and crawl out way down, out of his sight.
We continue running until David says, "I'm not runnin any further."
I realized we stopped in front of Medda's theatre. "Common, in here!" I say, opening the door. We walk inside and head to the back room, where Medda gets ready for her shows.
"I want some answers." David exclaims. "Why was he chasing you? What's the refuge?"
"The refuge is a jail for kids. That guy, Synder, he's the warden." Jack tells David and Les.
