Without contest, I took off in the opposite direction. Fen followed, on my heels. "Keep going!" He shouted as we ran, the rain pelting us like glass shards on our skin. That's when I heard it. A weird growling sound from behind us. Needless to say, this was incentive to haul ass. I dug my heels into the ground, going as fast as I could.
Fen ran past me and stopped at a fence crouching down to boost me over. I stepped into his hand, and he effortlessly boosted me over the fence. I climbed over it, dropping to the pavement on the opposite side. He followed soon after and we began running again. Dodging trashcans and shopping carts as we moved through the alleys. The growling was still behind us. Whatever it was, it was persistent. We kept going and going, my lungs screaming for air at this point. And we slammed headfirst into a dead end. We both spun around to face the threat.

My legs shook from exhaustion, but he barely looked winded. "Get down, and don't move." He pointed to a dumpster and I rolled over behind it. I motioned for him to follow but he waved me off and spoke in direction of the assailant.

"Back off. While you can." He rolled up his sleeves, and I noticed two large tattoos on his forearms. A shield, and a Spiked Mace. Odd. They flashed bright red and he held his arms out in defense. Right before my eyes, like magic, the tattoos crawled down his arms and solidified in his hands.
What the hell?! Am I in a movie or something?!

He spun his mace a few times and got into a defensive stance. The ground shook as something thundered towards him. He took off, out of sight. I leaned out from behind the dumpster as he got thrown back, sliding across the ground and stopping next to me. "Stay back Nathan!" He got back up and shouted, sprinting back at the monstrous horned creature. It looked almost like a gargoyle. Not like a Quasi Modo gargoyle, but like a haunt your nightmares gargoyle. It roared as Fen delivered a swift shield strike across its face. He hit the ground, spinning into a Mace attack, shattering the beast's left leg. It fell to one knee and Fen flipped back, dodging a swipe from its huge claws. He ran at the wall, jumping off it, and bringing his mace down on its head with an almost sickening squelch. The creature backhanded him again, he collided with the wall, breaking some of the stone. He fell to his hands and knees shaking off the blow.

He wound his arm back, and the head of his Mace began to glow red. He threw it, full strength, Thor style, and it flew at the beast, tearing through its chest. The beast stood, shocked that there was a gaping hole in its chest, I would be too, and dissolved into a pile of black tar before evaporating. Fen called his Mace back, and they dissapeared in a flash of crimson light. He ran over to me and offered his hand. I sat, wide eyed, still trying to process what the hell I just saw.

He pulled me up, and we started to walk. "It's not safe here. We need somewhere to go. Any idea?"

"I uh, live not too far from here." I got out, and he just nodded.
"Lead the way." He said, and we ran off into the stormy night.
