Let freedom ring. The bell rang out and the class was filled with chairs rubbing on the tile, zippers from bags, and the teacher yelling something about homework.
I put my bag on and my headphones on strolling out the door and towards the exit. Freedom!I pushed out the doors into the cool afternoon air. Birds were chirping, sky was clear and blue. A perfect day. I started down the sidewalk occasionally tapping my heel on the sidewalk with the beat of the song. I pulled my camera from my bag snapping a photo of a hawk on a tree branch. With the flash, it took to the skies and I smiled.
Nature is my element. It's beautiful. I continued down the sidewalk and heard a familiar voice from the distance. I spun on my heel and saw the beauty queen herself, wearing a different jacket but the same low cut jeans and sneakers. She jogged up to me and I pulled my headphones out."Sup Beauty Queen" I grinned.
"Hey Nate, I live down this way too so I figured we'd walk together. Can I see your camera?"
"Yeah sure no prob." I pulled it from my jacket pocket handing it to her and she scrolled through my photos, eyes lit with wonder.
"How did you get so good at this?"
"Just comes naturally. Easy as breathing." We both continued down the cracked old sidewalk. She waved a few times as a few cars drove by. Her friend squad probably.
"Where's your stop?" She put her hands in her letterman jacket and glanced over at me for an answer.
"Just down the road, I live on 9th and Pine."
"In that old Victorian house?" She pointed down my street to my house.
"Yep, that's the one." I stopped on the corner and shuffled my feet a bit.
Come on Nate say something..
"Thanks for helping me out at lunch. I really appreciate it." I gave her a smile and she returned it. Whew. Go me."Hey its no problem. Those guys are jerks anyway." She pulled out the camera and turned it on. I forgot she had it.
"Wanna take a quick picture before I go?" Stupid stupid stupid. There's no way she'll go for it..
"Yeah sure, sounds cool" She grinned and set a timer running to a low tree hanging it on a branch then rushed over by me holding up her fingers in a peace sign.
I put my hands in my jacket and grinned widely as the flash went off and the moment was over."See ya around Emily." I waved goodbye and grabbed my camera heading off down my street.

I sat on my bed admiring the new picture in my collection. The lighting was surprisingly perfect. I turned off the camera, laying it on my nightstand and kicked off my shoes jumping up and landing on my back on the bed.
What a day. Didn't expect that twist.
I grinned at the ceiling and closed my eyes drifting off to sleep.
*hey guys, I hope you're enjoying it so far. It is a bit slow now, but it will pick up soon. Will Nate find the one who vandalized his home? What will happen next with Emily? Will he ever remember to water his ficus? Find out next time! Okay. That was kind of cringy. Anyway, read on friends.*
