Chapter Twenty Two

"Your voice, it sound familiar." I said quite matter-of-factly.

"I'd sure hope so." The man lowered his hood, revealing a face I hadn't seen since my childhood.

My eyes widened in surprise. "Neo!"
I laughed and we grasped forearms.

"It's been a while Kazuma." Neo smirked and I returned it.

"It's been years! I haven't seen you since... Shit I must've been four or five!"

"So I see you discovered your powers huh? I did too, clearly." He grinned widely, and collapsed his sword into his coat. "I see you sport your father's weapon, as I do." He said, opening one side of his coat to show off his sword.

"Yeah, too bad it makes me a target for demons." I sighed walking over to a bench, and sitting down. He sat beside me, and we talked. He told me about what happened with his family, and I, with mine. He told me all about how he and his brother destroyed the Demon Lord Mundus, just as our fathers defeated Beleth years ago.

Emily flew in, dropping Fenris too. She landed less than gracefully near the table.

Fenris's eyes widened at the sight of Neo. "Neo Korvaskr?" Fenris said, walking over to him and Neo looked up, a grin on his face. Fenris wrapped him up in a bear hug laughing.

"I'm glad you're okay. I'm sorry about your brother. I hope you gave Mundus what he deserved." Fenris said, clenching his fist.

"Wait, wait, wait, you guys know each other?" I said confused.

"Well of course we do, don't you remember how-" Fenris cut Neo off with a dark look.

"I feel like there's something you're not telling me." I stood, and Emily walked over confused as well.

"It's nothing. I'll explain later. Anyway, Emily, Neo. Vice versa." Fenris introduced them and Neo offered his hand.

"Pleasure to meet you. How'd you end up with a goofball like Nate?" He laughed and I punched his arm.

"Hey, nate's a great guy. And we're not together together. We're just friends." she retorted quite quickly.

Just friends. I thought shaking my head.

"Well, off we go. I'm hungry. Pizza?" Neo offered and we thought why not.

"Still obsessed with pizza huh?" I laughed taking a bite of my Sicilian slice.

"Dude, pizza is only the greatest food ever invented. Of course I am! I remember we used to always get Rohelio's and climb up in that tree in the backyard to eat. How are your parents?" Neo asked, taking a massive bite of his Supreme pizza.

He doesn't know? "They're uh.. They passed away when I was little." I said quietly to myself, and his grin fell.

"I'm sorry. I didn't know." He set his pizza down and leaned back.

Emily walked in, putting her phone in her pocket. "Dad called saying Cam is at home looking for me."

"Again? It's getting weird." I said and she agreed.
"Anyway, he wants me home." she said goodbye to everyone and I followed her out.

"I'm getting a bad feeling about Cam. This is the tenth time he's showed up at your house in the last month."

"I know. And everytime he shows up, a demon attacks a few days later. It can't be a coincidence. I'll look into it and call if I find anything." she gave me a hug and stepped back. "Your friend is nice, a little off, but nice."

"Yeah I guess. Don't forget our training session tomorrow afternoon."

"Wouldn't miss it Kazuma" She winked and ran off, taking flight.

I watched her go, fading into the horizon. How can one person look so good? I laughed to myself before heading back inside to join Fenris and Neo. We had more catching up to do.
