"Where's dad?" I asked, breaking the silence in the car.

"He'll be bringing Christian later." My mom kept her eyes on the road, speeding, but not too much, to keep up with the ambulance. We arrived two minutes after them, with no ticket.

Brennen had his head hung low, and rested it in his palms. He kept exhaling extremely loud, and it was obvious he was crying.

"Mom?" I looked at her.

"Yes, Baby?" She asked.

"Mom, I have to tell you something." I said very quickly. Brennen looked at me. His face kept telling me, "No, don't say anything. No, no, no, Max." I ignored it.

"Mom, Cierra did this because-"

Brennen interrupted me. "Me. It's because of me."

Mom was silent, waiting for us to explain.

"I was going to kill my self." Bren said very slowly. The opposite of how I was speaking."I tried drowning myself. Not too long ago. That's why we are wet. Max, well, jumped in."

Mom stared in disbelief. "How did you know he was going to do it?" She asked me. Without waiting for an answer, she looked at Brennen again. "Did you do this because of your friends? Oh Honey..."

"Mom..." I piped in. "We sort of..." My mouth was dry. My stomach was churning. I was dizzy. I couldn't say it. How could I tell her?

Thank God for Brennen! "We joined a suicide pact." He said. Mom's jaw hung. Her eyes wide open, her body shaking.

I could speak from here. " Jude was first. He shot himself. Then Evan, who suffocated himself. And then, well, Sandree. There isn't a murderer after us." I started crying." Oh, God, mom, I'm so sorry! Mom, I'm so sorry."

We took our time explaining and discussing things. Mom realized now that I was friends with a group of depressants.

Mom stood up, and started pacing back and forth, biting her thumb nail. Finally, she spoke. "I have to call the cops."

My jaw dropped, and I stared at her. "Mom, I'm your son. You cannot call the cops!"

"Baby," She looked at me, and placed her hands on my shoulders. "They think that people are trying to freaken murder you. They need to make it clear to their families. Hunny, this isn't about you right now."

"Mom." I couldn't breathe. "You can't!"

She walked away, ignoring my pleas.

I looked over at Brennen, who I almost forgot was there.

"What's going to happen?" He asked.

A couple of minutes later, my mom came back with my dad and brother.

"Brennen doesn't know anything." My dad said, mouth in a thin straight line. Both of them just stared forward. I zoned out as well, until a man in a uniform came to my attention.

"Max?"

"Yea, that's me." I told him.

"Can you come with me?"

I looked at my parents who nodded. Of course my mom would, she called the fucker.

"Yes, Sir."

He walked me out to his car, and I sat upfront. It was a long, quiet ride.

We pulled up to the station and informed me that my door wasn't locked.

"Most people assume it is, because the back ones are." He also stated.
