"Hello my darling, how are you this lovely morning." My mother asked me. I look at her with sleep clear in my eyes.

"If I would not have been woke up by Kita and all of her little friends playing with their seashells it would be an amazing morning, and I would feel a WHOLE lot better." I wanted to go and strangle my youngest sister for waking me at an ungodly hour, knowing that I have had no sleep for the past two weeks.

"Oh my Nicadimus you know that she means you no harm. Why have you been like this?" She asks looking worried.

"Marina mother, she will be nineteen in a few days and you of all people know what that means." The shape of an O formed on her mouth. She knew that Marina was my syren (soul mate). She didn't like it but she knew that she could do nothing about it. With her being a human and me being a merman, she had to make a choice to either live on land or in the sea.

"Your father and I want to meet her Nic, if that's ok with you." She says. She swims over to me and places her had on my shoulder then kisses me on the cheek. "I bet she is beautiful isn't she?"

"Yes, she is amazing mother, but...." I let the sentence hang knowing that she knew the reason.

"I know my boy. Your father will be happy for you....and" She was interrupted by my father.

"Why am I happy for our son?" He askes her. He swims up to her and kisses her on the cheek.

"Hello Posyden, Nic has found his syren my darling." She tells him.

"Wonderful, what sea is she from?" I was furious that he made the assumption of her being from the ocean. I was about to argue with him, but my mom saw my temper and cut in.

"She is human my darling." She says then backs up. My father had a temper and my mother knew it more than anyone in the sea. She also knew that when he was angry that there was no dealing with him, which is why this wasn't going to be pretty.

"She's what?" He asks freely not pointing the question to either of us. His face was turning red with his anger.

"She is a human. She can make he..." She was interupted.

"NO, she Will choose the sea." My father says, putting force on the word will.

"She has a choice Posyden, you know that is not fair to him." My mom says. I was just floating there listening to them bicker over Marina. My father turns to me and gets all up in my face when he tells me, "She WILL choose the sea, or you WILL loose her! YOU are my heir, there is NO DISCUSSION about this Nic." I hold my breath while he was in my face. When he backed off, I let my anger fly.

"YOU have NO right to do that father! Your syren was a human and you were your father's heir as well. I WILL NOT LOOSE HER!" I yell to him. After I was done, I swam off as fast as I could.

"Posyden, you had no right! Why in Triton's name would you tell him that he can't have his syren?!" Oceania yells at her husband.

"Oceania, he has to stay here. With me, I had a brother and his syren was a mermaid. With Nic, there is no one else to be ruler." He says to her. She stares at him for a moment. Choosing her words wisely she says, "My darling, Kita can rule. She is just as fit to rule as Nic is and you know this."

"No..." She interupts him.

"Yes, she can. If his syren chooses the land you will be ok with it. His happiness is more important then a ruler! I won't let you do this to him Posyden, I won't." I say then start to swim away from him. He catches up to me then grabs my arm to swing me around to face him.

"You know that you are the only one who can do that to me. You win my love, if she chooses the land kita will rule." I smirk at him. I look up at him, this was my other half and I don't know how I would be without him. That is why I didn't want my son to go through that pain, he wouldn't be the same. I smack him on the chest playfully, "Go apologize to him, before he does something idiotic my love."

She was right. I had no right to over react the way that I did, but he is my heir and I didn't want my baby girl to have that responsibility on her shoulders. I knew she could do it, but....that was my baby girl. To add on to it, I didn't really like humans. Yes I know, Oceania was human but she is my syren, I had no choice. My brother was killed by a human. Someone had told about us and Brydon was in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was killed and I assumed sold for a pretty penny. Ever since then we made the rule that if you see a human, keep your distance.

"Nic, I need to talk to you my son." I knock on his door.

"What do you want?" He asks me through clenched teeth. He was mad at me but I had to make my point.

"Look, I know I over reacted. You are my only male heir and I want you to rule when the time comes," His eyes flare up with hatred and anger. "But, your mother talked sense into me. I have no right to tell you that you can not have your syren. I know the consequences of you not having her. You also know my outlook on humans son but I have no right..."

"Thank you father. I understand where you were coming from, and you are right, you had no right but I forgive you." He says to me. My heart jumed for joy that he had forgiven me for that. I swim over and hug him tight.

"So....when do we meet her?" I ask with a big smile on my face. He laughs then shakes his head at me.

"Soon father, very soon."
