Danger

"Daddy! I need to borrow...the car...who is this?" I say to my father.

"Gatlyin, this is my friend Royce, we are going deep sea fishing would you like to come?" he asks me.

"Um not to be rude, but I hate fishing. Anyway I need the car is that ok?" He nods to me as I turn and walk out of my house.

I start up the car and make my way to the beach. And what I mean by on my way to the beach was on my way to Malinda's. See, my dad has had "friends" over for like the past three weekends and I'm finding this suspicious. Especially since I've seen the things in his room. Pictures of mermaids, fish markets that had them on display and a ton of more disturbing images. That's why I'm driving to Malinda's. Yes, I knew everything and I do mean everything. I knew my best friend had turned into a fishy thing but, she was happy. I also knew that I wasn't suppose to see her, but I needed to talk to her, to warn her.

"Malinda? Are you here?" *crash* I heard the breaking of what sounded like expensive china.

"Dear goodness, what are you doing here Gatlyin?" she asks me.

"I need to know where I could possibly find Marina, I have to tell her something very, very important."

She looks at me and shakes her head. She's not going to tell me and this was a wasted trip, I think to myself.

"Gatlyin, I...I can't tell you that. I wish I could but...."

"Malinda, this is important. My dad has been going deep sea fishing for about three weekends now. I think he knows about them. I've seen things around his room, on the computers, and horrible things that I really don't want to tell you. So PLEASE tell me where I can find her."

To say shock was on her face was an understatement. She turned as white as a sheet.

"The sea caves. I assume that would be the place she would be, it's secluded and not a lot of people know..."

"Thank you, I'll let you know about this after I come back." I say while making a b-line for the door.

I get into the car and floor it out of Malinda's drive way.

We are at the sea caves letting Kita and Shimmer play with the fish. They are splashing their brother, and he dunks them into the water. This goes on for awhile. I swim over to Nic to give him a kiss on the cheek when I hear,

"Marina! Look I know that you're out there, please come here."

I turn to Nic, he was shaking his head at me like I was a little child. That was Gatlyin's voice and it sounded like she was in pain.

"Nic, I...I have to see what's wrong..."

"No, Marina you can't go to her. You know why you can't."

I shake my head at him and swim off to my friend. I could hear him yelling at me to come back, but I couldn't. There was something wrong with Gatlyin and I knew it. I reached her and say to her,

"What, what is it?" I ask her.

"You...have to get out...of here..now." she says threw sobs.

"Gatlyin, why what's going on." I say while whipping tears from her eyes.

"My dad. He is out here, he knows Marina. He knows about you!" I look at her, then back to where Nic and the girls were at. Oh gah, we needed to leave.

"Gatlyin I need you to drive to my house. Get into the water, say Oceania. Tell her what you just told me. NOW!" She nods to me then runs to the car and speeds off.

I swim back over to Nic and the girls.  

"Nic, we have to go. NOW."

"Marina, why? What's wrong?" he says to me. He grabs my face trying to calm me down.

"Gatlyin's dad...he...he knows! We have to GO!" Realization crosses his face. He shoves Kita and Shimmer out of the caves and to the castle.

"Marina! Come on!" he says to me.

"I'll catch up in a bit. Go on without me." I say to him. He shakes his head at me and I nod to him, "Nic I'll be fine jus go on. I'll catch up with you."

"Hell no! Marina get your ass over here! I command you." when he says that I feel like I have no choice. My body wasn't my own when it started to go towards him.

"What tha..."

"Later, right now you need to swim."

We swam to our home as fast as our tails could carry us.

I could feel a call coming from Malinda's. I hope every things ok with her because this wasn't normal for Marinas mother.

"Ye...you aren't Malinda. Who are you?" I ask the human. In all honesty, she was being very rude. She didn't stop staring at me.

"Oh goodness, sorry. I'm Gatlyin, Marinas friend. My dad knows about you and I believe that he is going after your son and Marina at the sea caves." she says to me.

"How did this happen? Did you tell him about us?" I ask her.

"No, gah no! Why would I do that to my best friend?! Look the longer you float there the better chance he has to getting to them!" she says to me.

"Human, they are safe. My son just informed me that they are ok. Now, back to my question, how did this happen?"

"How in the hell did you do that to me?! More important why the hell did you do that to me?!" I yell at Nic.

"Because, you were being stupid! If I would have left you there do you have any idea what could have happen to you?!" he yells back.

"No I don't know what could have happen but I wasn't thinking about me! I was thinking of the man I love and his sisters!"

"Marina, you could have died. Or worse, sold and tortured!" he says while swimming up to me and grabbing my arms forcibly. I face him for a few minutes wondering if I should slap him, or kiss him. Deciding neither, I look away.

"How did you make me come with you like that?" I ask after our heated rant was over.

"You're my syren. I can make you do whatever I want, and vice verse. But it normally only works when one of us is in danger. See, if you were hurt, I would feel it. Any pain or panic, I can feel from you. You will soon be able to do the same thing." he says. I hear the trumpets in the background announcing the queens arrival back home.

"I have to go speek to your mom." I say in a small sheepish voice. I swim out of our room with my head down only looking up when I knew that I was out.

"Ah, Marina. We need to have a talk my dear." Oceania says to me.

"I know your highness but..." She cuts me off.

"Later dear. I am not mad, I'm actually surprised and proud that you done what you did to save my children. Now, go back to Nic. He's worried about you." she says, removing her hand from my arm.

She needs to understand the way things work, I think to myself. This is a partnership, and if she were to get hurt my life would be a living hell.

"Nic, stop talking to yourself love. It's highly annoying." I jump, again, at her voice.

"Are you still mad at me?" I ask her. I had taken her free will earlier today. Yes it was to save her but still it had been taken for a few short minutes.

"Yes I am. I can forgive you because I know you just wanted me safe. But, you also need to know that when I make decisions like that, I don't want you to save me. That was my choice and as my syren and my future husband I need you to honor my decisions no matter how reckless they may be. Understand?"

I nod at her. It was true, to a degree. I swim up to her and pull her face up to me. "Marina, I love you."

"And I love you." she says. Then I pull her in for a breath taking kiss.
